everything runs OK except for one, VMWare Player for Linux Mint doesn't support 3d acceleration for guest OS even host OS supported!
FWIW, I had the same problem with VMware, on a machine which is a bit old (formerly-Win7 Toshiba laptop) but runs 3D acceleration fine in VirtualBox.

Re: Dual boot now missing

Edit your grub.cfg file and add the following: Umm, no, one doesn't edit the grub.cfg file. First line, "# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE." For this strategy, one edits /etc/grub.d/40_custom, which is then incorporated into grub.cfg when updating Grub. Whether the suggested parameters are correct is more th...

Re: WannCry and other threats

You mean your drive was fragmented? No. And, of course, had run defrag and all the other system utilities. That aside, Windows and desktop Linux both start to accumulate derelict files if you install a lot of applications. No, that wasn't the problem. Doubt it was for the OP's friends either. And, ...

And also all windows-users complain about the computer going slower and slower over the years ... This is one of the biggest problems with Windows, IMHO. (I'm not allergic. I have two computers, one each Windows and Mint.) For reasons I've never understood, Windows seems incapable of clearing out s...

keep the OSes to separate hard drives
The crazy thing is that the drive borked in the linked thread was separate. Windows regarded it as available because not formatted (as far as Windows was concerned). The OP in that thread did have a backup, albeit not perfectly current.

Re: [SOLVED] Is there a way to boot directly to Win 7 from inside Linux

Installing xterm eliminated the error but when icon clicked the sudo grub-reboot 4;reboot just flashes a terminal window and the closes. No other action I should have noticed this from the start. Pretty sure the problem is that you can't run sudo from a launcher, as there's no way to enter your pas...

Re: Partition planning for Dual boot rig.

FYI, the bios-grub partition is a compatibility thing, for using a GPT partition on a computer which boots in BIOS mode. If you're going to have one, pretty sure it has to go first. More to the point, not needed if you're only booting in UEFI.

Haven't done this exact thing, but pretty sure the procedure described here will produce the custom Desktop or Panel launcher you want. Only did it once, in Cinnamon to solve the shutdown problem discussed in that thread, but it did work for that.

Re: Which Wine should I get for 19.1?

Thank you so much pbear, that was amazing :) You're welcome. Following up on gm10's comment, the release notes recommend also installing a package called wine-desktop-files , which adds a few useful tools to your Menu. Wine works fine without them, but a little easier with. Anyhoo, it's recommended...

As yours is a new install, not much point to figuring out something you intend never to use again. So, just reinstall and be done with i...

Be aware direct install of Wine does not include menu entries as in prior repo versions, though you will get menu entries for installed apps. It does if you install it from the official Mint repos, see the Mint release notes about installing Wine: https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_tessa_cinnamon.php Th...

Re: Which Wine should I get for 19.1?

According to the tutorial I found ... Rather than a tutorial, better to use the official website, WineHQ .
