Yes, I did. If you did it wrong, how would you know? gm10's procedure has worked for thousands of users and is linked by the developers for a reason. To simplify things, did you get this checksum: 116578dda0e03f1421c214acdd66043b586e7afc7474e0796c150ac164a90a2a? If so, you can forge ahead without t...

Re: how to clear recent list in Xed
The thread marts123 links is interesting. From there, I came up with a simple solution, provided we're talking about the Cinnamon desktop (if anything similar is available for Mate or XFCE, I can't find it). gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.privacy remember-recent-files false This disables "R...

Re: Mint stopped booting
Let's confirm the boot files and kernel images are where they should be. Boot a live session again. Set up an internet connection. Open Firefox; navigate to this thread for reference. Open Terminal. Run these commands (use copy-and-paste, don't retype), copy the outputs, and paste into your next pos...

Re: How can I check if my disk is encrypted?
Another way to check whether you have any LUKS-encrypted partitions is lsblk -f . File system type is one of the fields. For example, here's what a USB hard drive with a LUKS partition looks like: lsblk -f NAME FSTYPE LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINT sda ├─sda1 crypto_LUKS 175f4c0d-3b32-4bad-ac1...

Did you bother reading the official Release Notes? They're linked on the download page. Not easy to miss.mintlooksnice wrote: ⤴Tue Aug 22, 2023 12:09 pm I also read that multimedia codecs need to be online for be installed.

Re: BAD Signature During ISO Authenitication
The GPG check started in 2016, after a security breach . Frankly, very few users bother. I do, but only so I can say in threads like this: You're okay, I've done the GPG check which confirms that's the correct checksum. And I get the same checksum of the ISO as you do. gpg --verify sha256sum.txt.gpg...

Re: Saving Timeshift snapshots to new drive and........
Alas, this is a common misunderstanding. Frankly, I blame the Mint developers. Bling is nice, but documentation is important. Timeshift has been an integral part of Mint for something like five years and the closest thing to a manual is Tony George's original writeup on GitHub. Anyway, you are makin...

Please post a screenshot of how the drive looks in Disks. To upload as an attachment, see tab below text entry window. Click button to place inline.

Re: Disks hung?
Presumably you have cancelled out of Disks by now. FWIW, I've used both it and VeraCrypt to encrypt partitions without running into a problem. Unless there's an issue with the hardware, probably just a glitch. But, it might be the hardware. You realize LUKS and VeraCrypt aren't interchangeable, righ...

Re: timeshift "file modified" dates that are 2 days into the future
FWIW, checking GitHub, no one has reported a similar problem in the last six months. Not doubting your report, just saying it's probably some weird confluence of factors. Nothing quite so frustrating as a problem which can't be reproduced.

Re: Incorrect writing of files to an NTFS flash drive, Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon
If you want a GUI method, open Disks (on Menu) and leave it open (has very low RAM overhead). Use that to unmount and/or eject USB drives. That's what I do (unless doing a large copy in Terminal, in which case I run sync first) and it's been 100% reliable in many years of use.

Re: Screen Saver settings not retained in Uma 20.3
IMHO, you've changed and/or removed too many pieces for the system to be salvageable. If you have a Timeshift snapshot (or other backup) from before you started your xymon adventures, that probably will get you back on the horse. If not, backup data files (if not already) and reinstall. By the way, ...

Re: Mint 21 prevent live booting
The file you want to look at for hidden vs. menu is /etc/default/grub, which is then used to build grub.cfg. What you would expect to find in grub.cfg relevant to the problem is a section which says: menuentry 'UEFI Firmware Settings' . A simple search in text editor for the text string uefi should ...

Re: LUKS encrypted USB automatically connects without password!
Try using the Menu search box. I'd expect Password to be enough to bring up the relevant app; will be listed on the right. If that wasn't available in LM19, surely the simplest solution would be to get in the habit of ticking the 'don't save password' box when opening a LUKS volume manually.

Re: Mint 21 prevent live booting
Frankly, I think part of the story is missing, but maybe this will help. From a running Mint system, you can get to the firmware settings with systemctl reboot --firmware-setup . Works for both a live session and an installed system. If you force display of a Grub menu at boot, UEFI Firmware Setting...

Re: Updating automatically (with system snapshots off)
Can I still somehow enable automatic updates? This came up a few years in the context of major upgrade, which at one point (perhaps still) required Timeshift to be set up before the upgrade app would run. What worked for users who objected to the requirement was to setup Timeshift (checks the box i...
