Re: Assistance for switching to Linux from windows 10

If you are interested in learning to use the Linux Command Line Interface, I would highly recommend William Shott's The Linux Command Line. It is available as pdf file. The fourth internet edition is out.

Re: Shutdown issue - Keyring-Daemon still running

To AZgl1500:

To execute the bash script you use a period and a space before the name:

Code: Select all

. down
Just typing in the name does not execute the file. That's why you got those error messages.

Re: Shutdown issue - Keyring-Daemon still running

I also have this issue. I created a bash shell file, named 'down' (without the quote marks), in my ~/bin directory with the following: #!bin/bash gnome-keyring-daemon -r -d shutdown -P now Also issue the following in a terminal window in the bin directory: chmod 777 down If you want to limit executi...

Re: No Wireless with 4.4.0-112

Thanks, JeremyB.

I was hoping to use the LTS version of the kernel. I don't like being stuck with continuing to update the kernel. If 4.10.0-32-generic and 4.13.0-32-generic can support the wireless interface, it shouldn't be hard to the 4.4.0-xxx series to do the same.

No Wireless with 4.4.0-112

I bought a new desktop computer, HP Pavilion, with an i5 processor. The kernels that work with the wireless interface are 4.10.0-32-generic and 4.13.0-32-generic. I can not get kernel 4.4.0-112 to acknowledge the wireless interface. rfkill list all shows: 0: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blo...

Re: Replace panel (task bar) in LXDE with something better

This might get you going: Right click the panel. This will open a menu window. Select the Panel Setting option with a left click. This will open another menu window. The first tab is Geometry where you can select the location of panel to be placed: top, bottom, left or right on your screen. I like t...

Re: Cinnamon 18.2 Problem

I'm not sure if there is a problem. I too run Cinnamon 18.2 and it does take a while to boot up to a operating state. You might look for what is slowing things down: You may be running the latest Cinnamon 3.4.4. It might have changed functionality since Cinnamon 18. So it might be slower by comparis...

Re: Dropbox won't install

I'm running Cinnamon on Linux Mint 18.2. You might try re-installing Nemo-dropbox after removing Nautilus-dropbox. Use the Software Manager from the Menu. Check that Nautilis-dropbox is not installed. If it is installed, remove it. Install Nemo-dropbox. Execute the installer from the Menu, looking u...

Re: login window background image not displaying in 18.2 (lightdm)

I too upgraded from 18.1 to 18.2, and now my login background is the same as my selected wallpaper. The contents of the directory /etc/lightdm have changed with 18.2, specifically the configuration files are different. frank@msiMint /etc/lightdm $ cat slick-greeter.conf [Greeter] draw-grid=false bac...

New Here

Hi All,

Just registered. Been a linux user since Windows XP died. Started with Ubuntu 14.04. Upgraded to 16.04 until I found Linux Mint 18.1. Tried other distributions, but found Mint had everything I want in my system.

Looking forward to learning more to improve my knowledge of Linux.
