I am a webmail client. My webmail provider automatically moves 99% of the junk email into the corresponding folder. So I don't get too many phishing email and desktop notifications...

I think that issue is probably caused by your Applications theme (GTK theme). Try another set of selections in Menu > Preferences > Themes ... (Advanced settings...)
