Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

I read somewhere that these amplifiers run hot so ordered a cooling fan. That is not correct, they run cool. I can use the fan on something else. I am putting too much into it at 30dBm as it states the max is 20dBm input. I haven't noticed any negative effects from overpowering it, I thought heat wo...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

Received the amplifier this morning and after a quick test I would say that signal strength is boosted by around 20%. There is a down side, when using my connection it seems slightly less responsive. Perhaps that is a trade off. I am going to try the dipole antenna as have been testing it with a sma...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

The WiFi amplifier in question is being held by customs, there has been some delay. My cooling fan arrived and it was ordered on a later date. I will have to wait and see if it clears customs. I don't believe they are illegal to buy or import, just to use in certain situations.

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

I would have thought that if my router were sending out a signal at 30dBn then what would happen is that I would likely see two AP's with the same name. One genuine the other the imposter. I understand how the receiving radio can be swamped but I am still transmitting a powerful signal of my own, h...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

I currently have my adapter and router set as TW Taiwan. This ups my power from 20dBm to 30dBm and gives me the 13 channels that are the default for GB, perfect. Wouldn't it be sensible, in light of this attack method, to set your router at the highest possible setting to make it more difficult to ...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

worrying about the power of your WiFi adapter is pretty much Nonsense. Unless you stick your head inside the microwave oven, you will not receive enough radiation to ever worry about the consequences. I have been using radios as a Ham Radio operator since 1958, most of the time at 100 watts, and of...

Maybe this one would be better due to metal heatsink, the other was all plastic. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Router-Paper-Dissipate-Heat-sink-Chassis-USB-Fans-5V-12CM-Cabinet-Fish-Tank-Power-Amplifier-cpu/32863724667.html?spm=2114.search0604.3.76.394c42f4SqSKeM&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb2...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

Why expose yourself to dangerous radiation levels? Better reduce them instead: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/reduce-electromagnetic-radiation I've never come across someone wanting less power. Most want 30 or above if possible. I thinking it has to do with overpowering a signal...

They are bi directional, like a repeater Never realised that. Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

Wifi extenders might be legal, they plug into an electrical outlet but do need some info entered for them to work They are only good for one purpose though, right? Extending the signal from a router. An amplifier can be plugged into a router or set up to amplify the reception of a signal, though th...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

I have my doubts about them personally, which is why I was asking if anyone had had any experience of these gadgets. If they were really good I think more people would use them and if people had been prosecuted there would be articles in the press. I do not remember reading anything remotely like th...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

I'm in the EU, and I think it's pretty clear from my post that I never used one, nor am I planning to, no. I live in the city though and I have seen the vans they use to triangulate rogue transmitters, so I know they'll come after you. It's not like you can cover it up, you're basically setting up ...

Re: WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

Of course those things are illegal, wireless communications are tightly regulated because everybody has to share the spectrum. I don't know specifics for the UK but running a rogue transmitter will result in expensive fines, and if you disrupt other people's wifi you open yourself up to claims for ...

WiFi amplifiers. Good or bad.

Recently ordered a cheap WiFi amplifier from Aliexpress and was wondering if they are any good? I've been told that the one I have coming is illegal to use in the UK but... If they are good then I MAY get myself a better one maybe the 8W version. Also watched a Youtube review which said they do work...

Re: Faster WiFi is going to be available in 2019

I put technology over safety every single time. I really couldn't care less if I fry passers by that get cooked in my beam so long as I can get free WiFi.

Cost is what bothers me, frankly. I frown upon exploitation.

Re: New Smartphone

I use a Ulephone Armor X and I find it a great little budget phone, on the whole. Rootable, but no alternative image as far as I know yet. One issue the wireless charging chip is flaky, some like myself find it does not work. A small inconvenience for such a good phone. It is one tough "son of a..."...

I have the exact same chipset in my adapter. Working better than my Alfa adapter with an Atheros chipset. And it can do anything that the Alfa is capable of, like use in Kali for penetration testing.
