Re: can fans be affected over time

One of my Thinkpad's, an old X61, developed a "fan error" message at boot this week, so I am forced to use another X61 as a replacement generic laptop that I use for browsing. The other one grinds and growls, the fan is so bad. I have never tried to change the fan in an X61, and read that it is a p...

Re: If you compile - remember build-essential and checkinstall

I have just installed a driver for a WiFi adapter but I wish I had read this first.

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

Reviewers only understand physical damage. Like talking to a brick wall. Pointless exercise.

Re: Connecting to wireless N router

I think the easiest way for me to fix this up is to get a decent USB WiFi dongle. And that is exactly is what I am going to do. I can't be bothered with surgery and replacing the internal card. Strange thing is the AD says my choice does not work with Linux but when I researched the chipset which is...

Re: Connecting to wireless N router

Just checked Windows 7 and it reports that I am connected to a wireless N radio type though there is an exclamation mark on the connection icon indicating that there is a problem and has no internet access yet here I am reading and posting..

Re: Connecting to wireless N router

This laptop may appear to be the slowest in my collection for some strange reason it is the smoothest when operating with this new router. The pages just glide open whereas on my others they appear slow and painful.

Re: Connecting to wireless N router

Not sure what to tell you there. A quick Google search seems to suggest that Wifi chipset doesn't support "N". In fact, in the screenshot you attached, the indicated Bitrate is only 36 Mbits, which is well under the max supported speed of "G" which is 54 Mbits, despite a strong signal strength. I w...

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

Well it's not currently looking too good for a refund. Seller has refused to comply but said one word "sorry". From my perspective it's not good enough but it all depends on how it is seen by the individual reviewing the case. I've had them rant and rave, admit fault immediately, and everything in-b...

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

I went over to visit a friend today, who has the home built LTE modem with the MC7455 chip on it. He hasn't got it up and going yet, but is going to call me when it is done and working. He currently has a problem with the Simcard to AT&T, for some reason it has been un-registered and he is out of s...

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

I'll say one thing for this router and MC7455 it has never disconnected not even briefly not so much as a stutter. I have read about others suffering signal loss. I can only put this down the low signal strength in their locale. The software/firmware on the router appears unreliable and/or undepend...

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

Sounds idyllic. An RV is a bit on the high end of the spectrum for my taste. Great if you can afford it though. It's a shame you couldn't live the dream. A van is much more me. I don't need a lot of space. You need a special category of licence to drive an RV right? You can drive a van up to a cert...

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

I'd like to hit the road myself but am not a driver. That's one fantasy that may never become reality. Like the idea of freedom you know parking where you like, somewhere nice and just living. I think I am something of a Gypsy at heart. I don't enjoy being constrained. Don't fence me in. A van woul...

USB to PCI-E to M.2 NGFF B Key To Mini PCI-E PCIE Adapter

I have a USB to mini PCI-E adapter which is used to flash firmware onto a wireless module. I was thinking if I get a M.2 NGFF B Key To Mini PCI-E PCIE Converter Adapter do you think I could join the two then plug the whole combination into a USB port and it'll be recognised?

Try xset s off https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Display_Power_Management_Signaling That particular laptop is off for the moment but tomorrow I will try your suggestion. Thanks. I think the problem was rectified with the new kernel yesterday as I have been using said laptop most of the day witho...

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

happiness is when you can look in the rearview mirror and say 'oh well, at least it works" I have the 1st LTE modem still yet, will keep it for a backup. Netgear LB1120 Single channel. Hauled that one all over the southeastern USA a year ago, and it never missed a beat. Was very happy to have my "h...

Re: Looking for used Cat 6 4G LTE module

Here's some other guy with the 'exact' same problem and he is given the brush-off/workaround of "we cannot replicate your issue". Well I can! https://forum.sierrawireless.com/t/mc7455-selrat-unknown-rat-mode/13908 Which doesn't alter the fact that I have been sold a malfunctioning unit, knowingly o...
