Re: How to make an FTP server/site

If your router is capable just install alternative firmware like "Tomato" or "DD-WRT". An FTP server is included, so all you would need to do is tick a box, set a username and password and apply. Your router should also have a USB port in which you would plug in an external drive, an old laptop driv...

Re: What's the verdict on this new DNS service?

I don't really fancy using 9.9.9.9 as the British Police are involved in it.

Re: What's the verdict on this new DNS service?

If I use Bind9 and tell it to use RESOLVCONF by changing the value from "no " to "yes" in /etc/default/bind9 And add 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 to RESOLVCONF replacing the default, will bind9 now ensure there are no DNS leaks from 1.1.1.1 ? I have tested it and it works but I do not know if it is secure.

Re: What's the verdict on this new DNS service?

I just thought I hadn't seen this discussed and I know there are some seasoned pro's around here that would really know about it. Thanks for the replies. I have tested it and for now I think I will stick to Dnscrypt or Bind9. Unless someone comes up with a tool to improve it, like I am not convinced...

I’m using it without any problems. I also see some faster surfing with it. NOW, is it safe ?????
Hoping to get some expert opinions so we can all make a decision on using it maybe.

Re: Fingerprint Scan and Password Managers and Lastpass

I have a usb fingerprint scanner on my 18.3 mate desktop, and it works fine for desktop login. I have some non-tech users (who share this PC) with 'forgot my password' issues. So, I thot I'd try fingerprint scanning with them. Most of authentication issues are with Chrome/browser logins. I use last...

The GUI version works quite well but I find the quality of video on YouTube leaves a lot to be desired.

I just tested my suggestion and it plays video perfectly via my Minix Android TV box, via AirPlay, however there is no audio.

Re: DNLA streaming

Mini-DLNA is a part of the DD-WRT firmware on my router. I can't say I've ever used it though. It seems simple enough though, you may wish to try that.

The output for my wifi chipset shows 14 channels, although my country (The Netherlands) only allows 13.... So it might be something that's hardcoded in your chipset.
I think you are lucky. Yours sounds like a Japanese card.

Re: Transmission on DD-WRT router.

The DD-WRT forum leaves a lot to be desired by way of usability and attitude, let's face it, it is downright unfriendly. Their firmware offering has developed and on the build I am using, which is probably the Mega build, quite a bit of the work is now done for you. Transmission is pre-installed now...

Re: Transmission on DD-WRT router.

Unfortunately it is not supported on the Netgear WNDR 3700 V4. I have had that installed on another for a very short time, it was a second user refurb' Linksys from Amazon, and broke shortly after buying it. A matter of days. I remember when Linksys were a decent company.

I think you could just left-click on the link you want and while holding down the mouse button, move the link to the bookmarks bar and drop it wherever you like.
That's exactly what I was looking for thanks.

[Solved]Adding chosen items to Chromium bookmarks bar

I'd really like to add my choice of links to the Chromium bookmarks bar but the method so far escapes me. It seems to display whatever links are at the top of the bookmarks list. I have one at the very bottom I'd like displayed on there.

Re: How to format a USB flash drive to be readable and writable

Okay I did it again in Gparted and guess what, it now mounts and IS writable. No idea why, I think it is broken. It's not broken. It needed to be partitioned and formatted properly as a USB flash drive. It was identified as "counterfeit" by Mint. No more need be said. It had been formatted numerous...
