Re: Problem connecting to a VPN

Install DD-WRT on your router, if supported, and then set up PPTP in there. Very easy to do and may be more stable for you. I use Open VPN that on my router. I think that's very dangerous advice. Why? Works fine for me. It is possible to set it up so that if the VPN disconnects the router will rebo...

Firejailing Claws-Mail

I am having problems firejailing claws-mail as it is set up to load at boot and drop to the tray as an icon. Firejail doesn't seem to pick it up although there is a claws-mail profile. If I exit claws-mail and start it up again it is picked up.

Does anyone have a workaround/solution?

Re: Which VPN should i use?

I have used a few over the years. At the moment I am using Ivacy, had some problems initially, can't say it was perfect. Adjusted a few settings and it is now OK. The thing about it is you get a great cheap deal. I am on a two year deal at the moment and couldn't be much happier, but I wouldn't say ...

Re: Leave USB stick plugged in permanently?

I bought a Sandisk Cruiser Fit to have a USB stick that would be as flush fitting on my laptop as possible, with the intention of leaving it plugged in permanently. Is there any risk of damage or data loss in doing that? TIA. I use a cheap Chinese knock off drive but it is very small. It is identic...

Re: [UnSolved]Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

Received my cheap X61 and so far have not had a single problem. No fixes needed whatsoever. I do not know if this is because the problem machine is an X61s though. WiFi is stable, for now. If anything goes haywire I will update.

Re: [solved] how to make USB stick writeable

No problem. It's just a matter of finding the right place and then copy and pasting as shown. A two minute job. Really.

Re: how to make USB stick writeable

by pyrus » Wed Jan 02, 2013 7:03 pm I had the same problem with various types of USB memory sticks on Mint 13 Maya (MATE edition). I actually had two problems: a) One of my sticks (that I had copied from the Mint ISO) was formatted as an ISO-9660 (CD) format filesystem b) Other sticks were mounted ...

Re: Using PGP with emails (a refresher, please?)

Claws Mail is my choice and the Gnupg plugins. Very easy to use and much lighter and more efficient than Thunderbird.

Re: [UnSolved]Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

After my experiences with Linux, though admittedly short in length, my first thoughts are this OS is unstable. It can only be used "reliably" via Ethernet. With that in mind it can be used instead of Windows, but WiFi and Bluetooth is a minefield of frustration and destruction. To replace ...

Re: [UnSolved]Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

My attempt at blocking Bluetooth by removing files worked up until a few minutes ago when the update manager suggested two updates. I installed and during the installation Bluetooth activated.

Re: [UnSolved]Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

Does hciconfig -a show any results when bluetooth activates? I am stumped as to why bluetooth can activate with the modules blacklisted. The next time bluetooth activates, after getting the results I ask for, try bluetoothctl power off I wouldn't be surprised if bluetoothctl shows no devices and ju...

Re: [UnSolved]Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

I will have to try that another time. I have just resorted to major surgery and surgically removed the four files in /etc/bluetooth So far, Bluetooth has remained inactive with no negative consequences. I will post if anything goes wrong or activation occurs. I am in the final mental stages of prepa...

Re: [UnSolved]Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

Just uninstalled Libre Office and Bluetooth was invoked during the uninstall and my WiFi connection was destroyed. There must be a way to completely block it off. Whatever I do it always finds a way to activate. It's like my laptop has HIV or something.

The only mention of Bluetooth in startup is "Bluetooth OBEX Agent" and that's been unticked for a while.

And again. I may have to reinstall the OS at this rate. It is becoming more frequent.
