Re: "System Info" utility very limited in Mint 19. No "Hardware Manager"?

If you click "upload system information", it will open in your browser a page containing all available details

Otherwise, launch a terminal and type inxi -F for the same output. The inxi command allows filtering results, such as inxi -m for memory. To find out about all filters, type man inxi

Re: linux (mint) works just as well with AMD as INTEL processors ?

Please be gentle with old chaps, they may be rough sometimes, but they are much appreciated. And in my humble opinion, rants and personal attacks do not serve any purpose here ;)

Re: Project: sync tool

Athenaeum suits me fine on the grounds that you'd probably have to go searching go-ogle for the meaning. I encourage self-sufficiency in that department :) Hello catweazel. I followed your advice and googled for Athenaeum. First result, and domain name strict match, return this . Being French, I de...

It's a worthy cause but I shall not be signing that petition as I don't want change.org tracking me or collating data about me.
Or even selling its databases to whoever is interested in collecting valid e-mail addresses and political views ;)

Re: Monthly News – February 2019

I actually like very much the new logo proposal, as I like material design.

However, I believe it would be difficult to please everybody, and I think it is a trivial detail. If one does not like the icon, it is very simple to replace it...

Re: First post - Warranty voided if Mint installed on new laptop?

I would definitely follow JeremyB's advice : change the disk that contains Windows and keep it safe, and replace it in case you have to return the computer.

Re: Timeshift in Mint 19

I have used Timeshift on a couple of occasions to revert from a mistake or a broken upgrade (which was a mistake in the first place). It works really fine, and each time I recovered a working system within a few minutes. Another use I've had of Timeshift, is when I recently changed my computer. Befo...

Greetings from France

Hello I subscribed to this forum some time ago but never came to introduce myself. As I am very likely to stick around, here it goes. I live in south-eastern France in Toulon, by the sea. I have been fiddling with web servers for the past 20 years, mostly on Linux systems, but decided to use Mint on...

Re: Teamviewer

Hello. TeamViewer works fine for me on Mint 19.1 Cinnamon. Version of TV used at the moment is 14.1.9025, initially installed from a deb package downloaded on their website, and updated since then from their repository Otherwise, AnyDesk works fine as well, although you will not find it installed on...

Re: Do I need to use the Nvidia driver ?

It's recommended because according to nvidia docs that's the one. OK, I understand that Mint devs cannot try all hardware combinations and have to rely on some manufacturers' recommendations. I will mark this thread as solved, thanking you two for your useful advices. Do I need to say how I am happ...

Re: Do I need to use the Nvidia driver ?

Thank you WharfRat for this answer. I think that I will stick to your advice, unless some other member can show me advantages in trying again.

If I may ask however, for my education, what would be the use case for installing the proprietary driver, and why is it recommended by the driver manager ?

Re: Specific characters

I use an azerty keyboard and mostly type in french, and I do not really understand your issue ; if I need the uppercase version of é, è, ç, à, I just have to press capslock and then type the lowercase key without any other combination. The keyboard layout I use is "Français (variante)" but it may be...

Re: Can I change Desktop back to "Traditional"?

I switched back to Traditional as well, by the way. Can't get used to that grouped window stuff. Same here. By the way, when changing from Modern to Traditional or the other way round, all icons, applets, panel sizes, etc. get reset to defaults. This means having to redo all tweaks every time. I th...

Re: Serious problems with Mint 18.3

Hello. From my point of view, an i5 with 8 GB of RAM should run Cinnamon very easily : I get a very satisfying experience with my old laptop from 2009 based on an Intel Core2 Duo processor and 4GB RAM (now updated and running on 19.1 but ran 18.3 before without a glitch) However, I see this line in ...
