Re: Can I change Desktop back to "Traditional"?

I switched back to Traditional as well, by the way. Can't get used to that grouped window stuff. Same here. By the way, when changing from Modern to Traditional or the other way round, all icons, applets, panel sizes, etc. get reset to defaults. This means having to redo all tweaks every time. I th...

Re: Serious problems with Mint 18.3

Hello. From my point of view, an i5 with 8 GB of RAM should run Cinnamon very easily : I get a very satisfying experience with my old laptop from 2009 based on an Intel Core2 Duo processor and 4GB RAM (now updated and running on 19.1 but ran 18.3 before without a glitch) However, I see this line in ...

Re: remove windows remnants

I do not believe the "Windows Network" link comes from previous Windows Installation. It is there, I think, just in case you would connect to Windows machines I have a laptop where the original HD was replaced by a SSD, which has never seen any Windows on it, and I can see this "Windows Network" ico...

Re: Trying to install apache

For mod_rewrite, you have to activate it in httpd.conf configuration file, for example :

Code: Select all

LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so

Re: opml file ???

This type of bookmark was called Dynamic Bookmarks or Live Bookmarks (am not sure of the english translation) From the content you pasted, I would say you had at least one Firefox live bookmark : the Linux Mint blog RSS feed :) If you did not subscribe voluntarily, maybe it was included in mint's Fi...

Re: opml file ???

Last version of Firefox (64), pushed two days ago, abandoned its RSS feed reader ability. On update, Firefox saves on your desktop an opml file which contains the feeds you were previously following. If you did not follow any, I suppose there is nothing in the file (?) If you did use RSS feeds, then...

Re: Smart?

Although the amount of information one can store on an ancient nokia is rather limited to phone number and names. I loved these first nokia cell phones, they were strongly build and with long lasting batteries. But my address book has become quite big, and I store phone numbers, postal and e-mail a...

Re: Smart?

I have a smartphone, mainly for the ability to synchronize my contacts. If I ever loose the phone or it stops working, I can get my address book back in a few minutes on any other machine. A dumbphone would not allow it. I also use sometimes the GPS when I travel by car For all of the other function...

Re: Can't sign into Google account in Firefox

I doubt the problem could come from the operating system. It is more likely due to a browser bug or configuration. Do you have addblock (or similar as ublock origin) extension ? Do you allow cookies or even third party cookies ?

Re: How do we transfer all the XAMPP files including database from Windows 10 to Linux Mint Mate 19 Tara?

Hello. For your files, you can copy the htdocs folder from your Windows installation to the Mint one. You will probably need to change permissions on files as both systems are quite different on this respect, and you might find this advice useful : https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=2...

Re: How to install on VPS

I am trying to guess as well. As far as I know, a VPS is a server, but Mint is for desktop use. If you have a VPS, you can install a server distribution (Ubuntu, Debian, others), but I fail to see what you could do with a GUI installation ?

Re: Create a separate partition for snapshots during Linux Mint installation ?

I am by no means an expert, but I would hesitate to backup to the same disk, even if it is on a dedicated partition. If the disk crashed, you would loose also your recovery, wouldn't you ?

I solved this type of problems by 1) giving ownership of /opt/lampp/htdocs folder and files to current user and group 2) running xampp's apache httpd process under currrent user account See explanations and simple code here . I run this way plenty of local CMSs or frameworks, including WordPress, an...

Did like NightWing explained : uninstall TV14 and reinstalled TV13 from their website, and it works now as before.
