Re: Récupérer les données d'un portable HS

Peux-tu essayer de brancher un écran externe ? (c'est peut-être l'écran qui est en panne et pas la carte graphique)

Re: Mint 20 Performance on an i7-2600 ???

Hello. I run happily Mint Cinnamon 20 on a quite similar machine : i7-2640M (Lenovo ThinkPad from around 2011) with also 8 Gb of RAM. I have also a Lamp stack for local web development. I do not use the nvidia driver, but the nouveau one. My main disk is a SSD. Everything is fast and I have no overh...

Re: Laptop external monitor not recognized anymore

After trying both nvidia drivers without success, restarting the computer every time, I came back to using the nouveau driver... and it started working again! I do not know if I should mark this problem as solved, as I did not do anything but switch graphical drivers back and forth until it worked. ...

More information : I tried restarting the computer with a live USB system (Mint 20 Ulyana) and the second monitor is working fine. It is not a material failure.

Laptop external monitor not recognized anymore

Hello. Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon user here. Until today, my laptop was working fine with an external monitor. This morning, I applied a system update and kernel was changed to 5.4.0-53 and the external monitor does not display anymore, and is not even seen by the display tool in system parameters. This...

Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20

Thank you \o/

The upgrade path worked fine for me. It was the first time I upgraded this way, and I am happy with the new version

Everything works as before, not bad for a 9 years old machine!

Hello! I followed the advice and added an avatar to my profile. It is the French Mozilla logo, from way back (2006) I believe.

Re: Timeshift screwed up system: Snapshots in Timeshift are hidden now?

Sort of beginner here, but I think it should be stressed that Timeshift snapshots would be better, if possible, if it is used on another drive ;) This is what I do, and it has saved my life a couple of times, including a SSD failure. Combined with a file backup tool, Timeshift is invaluable.

Re: Malicious keylogger?

I'm posting because I got the same spam last night, but return email address is one from my contact list which I haven't used in 4+ years. So I wonder how he got that? Faking your email as a sender is easy, but getting your contacts is not, and could be the sign that your email address is or has be...

Re: Help! Windows 10 OS installation in VM

Funny story: a few months ago, I bought a second hand ThinkPad that had a licence key for Windows 7, with a sticker in the battery compartment, but when I installed Mint, I wiped the whole internal SSD, having at the time no use for Microsoft's OS Unfortunately, after a while, I discovered I needed ...

Re: "System Info" utility very limited in Mint 19. No "Hardware Manager"?

If you click "upload system information", it will open in your browser a page containing all available details Otherwise, launch a terminal and type inxi -F for the same output. The inxi command allows filtering results, such as inxi -m for memory. To find out about all filters, type man i...

Please be gentle with old chaps, they may be rough sometimes, but they are much appreciated. And in my humble opinion, rants and personal attacks do not serve any purpose here ;)

Athenaeum suits me fine on the grounds that you'd probably have to go searching go-ogle for the meaning. I encourage self-sufficiency in that department :) Hello catweazel. I followed your advice and googled for Athenaeum. First result, and domain name strict match, return this . Being French, I de...

It's a worthy cause but I shall not be signing that petition as I don't want change.org tracking me or collating data about me.
Or even selling its databases to whoever is interested in collecting valid e-mail addresses and political views ;)
