XFCE 64-bit - removed the Network Connection, No DSL.

Hello, I am using Mint XFCE 64-bit. 1. I removed the Network Connection from the task bar. It was near the clock. How do I get it back? 2. I also deleted the Network Connection - Ethernet and DSL connections. The Ethernet connection and information was already in OS when I started. I am trying to ad...

Re: Install Linux Mint 64-bit xfce in multi-boot.

Hello kc1di, I used a Cyberlink disc eraser and writer. When I burned the ISO image it was verified. I'll look at the links you posted. There was a dos-prompt that showed up for about 5 seconds once the computer loaded up. On this Toshiba laptop, when the DVD is 1st or 2nd boot order and a disc is i...

Re: Install Linux Mint 64-bit xfce in multi-boot.

You said 18.3, I said 18.2. There shouldn't be a difference?

I'll re-burn the disc when I have some time and test it out. It seems fine. Could a laptop have a limit of multi-boots?

I used a DVD burning program on my computer. I erased the disc before the burn.

Where do I install the 19.2 xfce copy from?

[SOLVED] Install Linux Mint 64-bit xfce in multi-boot.

Hello, How can I install Linux Mint 64-bit xfce in multi-boot? Windows Vista and Linux Mint 18.2 are already there. I have Linux Mint 19.2 xfce on a DVD-RW, but booting live from start-up or within Linux Mint 18.2 won't work. Can I have another version of Linux Mint in a triple boot? I pressed F12 a...

Re: Old laptop or netbook hard-drive connector.

I did get the adapter off. I will mark this as solved and upload a screenshot later. The adapter is plastic. It slides onto the pins and they are not bent. I tried regular pliers and a different type. Maybe be careful about the needle-nose type. Did any HDD's or any kind of storage get made that was...

Ok, how to remove the adapter? It was recommended to not open the hdd. I looked for screws, but they seem to open the whole pata drive.

Re: Old laptop or netbook hard-drive connector.

Hello, athi those do not work. I have a USB adapter that accepts the pins. These are FLAT contacts, not pins. There are not two rows of pins. Each set of pins that are above each other do not have a space. It is one flat piece of metal. I am sure the pictures show that. I provided the links that I s...

Re: Old laptop or netbook hard-drive connector.

Hello, Here are some screenshots of the contacts. I think I could open the HDD and take the whole thing apart, but that would wreck the drive? What if dust gets on there? This link for these cables will not connect as I showed one in the original post. 18in Dual Drive Ultra ATA IDE Hard Drive Cable:...

[SOLVED] Old laptop or netbook hard-drive connector.

Hello, I do not know where to post this in the forum, it's not about Linux. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this old laptop or netbook hard-drive connector is. I need to get an internal adaptor or external usb type of adaptor to recover and transfer the old data from it. The old Dell lapt...

Updates for kernel. Many.

Hello, I am using Linux Mint 18.2. I have done a lot of kernel updates level 3 or 4 that are stable. I noticed that when I looked at the command line that the old kernels were updating. Why would 10-20 old kernels be updated? I thought they overwrote each other after a certain amount or it would be ...

Re: Linux and Floppy B drives?

Thanks for the reply rene. I just want to be clear about the controllers and disk drives connected. One controller for a 3.5" or 5.25" disk drive can handle 2 disk drives connected? As you said and as some of the information I have read has said, 2 controllers and 2 disk drives for each, that is 4 d...

Re: Linux and Floppy B drives?

rene - Yes it is a 5.25" drive (https://www.biocomp.net/o30780.htm) that I am asking about. It seems that the Floppy A 3.5" cable is not the same as the one required for a 5.25" disk drive. I looked that up already. Unless there is a way to change that. So it is possible for my motherboard to have a...

Pieere - I do not have a Floppy B with USB connection. I have seen some setups online, but I cannot find where to buy them.

Floppy A is internal, not USB.

Re: Linux and Floppy B drives?

Pierre, will the Flobby B drives and disks work and be recognized? Where is the problem, the Linux OS, the virtual machine or the old system and how the hardware is connected or how the virtual machine runs the old OS in Linux?

Re: Linux and Floppy B drives?

I thought about getting old hardware and putting a version of Linux on there, it probably has to be xfce or something similar because of the limits of the system. If using Linux I am unsure if virtual machines with old versions of Windows or Mac OS will work? Does 32-bit or 64-bit affect anything? H...

[SOLVED] Linux and Floppy B drives?

Hello,

How does Linux Mint or other types handle Floppy B disks, drives and hardware?

Some people asked me about getting data off of the old disks, there are some old computers. But nothing like a USB2 connector for a newer OS or hardware.

Thanks.

Re: Hardware lifespan? Software to monitor it?

The temperatures are good at startup and after running for two days. I am not currently video rendering for two days or more at 100% CPU and everything else maxed out. I have used Windows tools. Not used the Linux commands yet. Is there a difference? Can Linux give more information most of the time?...
