Wireless goes down due to power management - LM XFCE 18.3 32bit.
Fresh LM XFCE 18.3 32bit system. Power management only set to reduce brightness to 90% with power plug connected, yet wireless dies like a dog every time the screen brightness is reduced. Very weird, is this a known issue?

Thanks for the replies, particularly the comprehensive reply from Flemur and Cosmo's explanation. Things seem to be working again as they should

Swap partition accidentally formatted on LM KDE Sylvia 64bit.
I am experimenting with Devuan Jessie/Ascii. For some reason, the Devuan installer selects all available swap partitions for formatting during the install procedure, and I didn't notice. Now, my LM KDE Sylvia system is soooo slooow in booting up. What can I do to solve this issue? BTW, the Devuan in...

(Solved) Linux Mint 18.3 Xfce live install user name and passwords?
I was interrupted while installing Linux Mint 18.3 Xfce onto a computer and the screen locked. Now I get prompted for a user name and password. What user name and password do I need to get back into the live install and complete the installation process? I simply don't understand the need for this a...

Re: pimsettingexporter AWOL on LM Sonya KDE.
Hmmm. I have solved this myself. The problem is that the items are hidden from the user. In my opinion, counter intuitive. The solution is to access the KDE Menu Editor and uncheck the "hidden entry" boxes for the items that you want to be able to see.

Re: pimsettingexporter AWOL on LM Sonya KDE.
I have now done some more digging and discovered that I can run both Korganizer, KAddressBook and pimsettingexporter from the terminal. I was able to import my data, which is what I set out to do. However, Korganizer, KAddressBook and pimsettingexporter and probably other bits still do not show up i...

Re: pimsettingexporter AWOL on LM Sylvia KDE.
Thanks for the quick reply. I should note here that I am using LM 18.3 Sylvia and not Sonya. I think you are missing a fundamental point - when the software manager states that a program is installed, I normally expect to find it in the application launch menu. Korganizer and KAddressBook are accord...

(SOLVED) pimsettingexporter AWOL on LM Sonya KDE.
Firstly, I would like to express my disappointment that LM is dropping KDE, particularly now, where I as a KDE newbie am starting to love it. My concrete problem is that I would like to import my personal info from a laptop running KDE Neon. I have looked through both Synaptic as well as Software Ma...

Re: Appimages in path - how?
*!#% After I installed the Musescore 2.1 appimage, midi playback output is tinny, distorted and unusable. On my laptop, where I have not installed the appimage, the midi output is absolutely fine. This issue is what led me to the Musescore 2.1 Appimage in the first place. The two variables are that ...

Re: Appimages in path - how?
I am using the MuseScore 2.1 Appimage as a point of reference. The MuseScore AppImage has some special options available. Running it from the terminal with the install option should fully integrate it to the desktop environment. ./MuseScore-2.1-x86_64.AppImage install For more information see ./Mus...

Re: Appimages in path - how?
OK, thanks I will give it a try. Sorry about the confusion. $HOME/bin is my (user/bin).I forgot what it was called. /home/<username>/bin will be in your PATH if it exists when you login. See ~/.profile Sounds good, but why aren't Appimages appearing in the Cinnamon menu or being recognized by the s...

Appimages in path - how?
I have tried Flatpacks and am not a big fan. However, I do like Appimages. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get the folder (user/bin) in path so that the Appimages will be added to the Cinnamon menu and the system will recognize Appimages as programs (right clicking files and choosing from p...

Implementing flatpack for Sonya Cinnamon.
Hi, I am interested in installing the flatpack version of a program (Musescore) and I am wondering how I can implement this on Sonya, in the same way that it will be configured in the next version of LM. I have found some discussion on the forum about the pros and cons of flatpack, appimages, etc., ...

Sonya command line shuffle to increase root partition?
I have very recently installed a working LM Sonya Cinnamon system on a home built computer. Unfortunately, I didn't allocate enough room for the root partition as I only have 600 MB remaining. As I ran into some GParted weirdness during my install (disks reported different /dev/sdx than the disk for...

Re: Sonya Cinnamon install freeze at GRUB install to /dev/sda
OK, so here is the latest. I finally managed to get LM Sonya Cinnamon installed by installing to /dev/sda as referenced in the disk management section (do something else) of the installation process. I emphasize this because GParted (menu item) displayed the HD order completely differently and also ...

Re: Sonya Cinnamon install freeze at GRUB install to /dev/sda
Secure boot is disabled in the BIOS and nothing has ever been installed using UEFI on these hard disks. My current Win 7 is also installed in legacy mode, on a separate HD.

Sonya Cinnamon install freeze at GRUB install to /dev/sda
I am trying to install Linux Mint Sonya Cinnamon on a home built midi tower PC. I have replaced the motherboard. The new motherboard is an asrock 970 pro3 r2. The install functions fine up to the GRUB install, where it complains: Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error. Sorry...

Kmail newbie's mail AWOL on !8.2 Sonya KDE.
Hi, I am new to KDE. I have just installed 18.2 Sonya KDE, but Kmail doesn't seem to be able to show my emails. I setup one IMAP account so far, using Kontakt. Kmail appears to have accessed all of my mails, but only shows a narrow strip down the message pane of the Inbox that says "No HTML Mes...
