Re: ham radio support
I am a Ham, in the UK. Call G1AEU. I recently bough a Yaesu FT3 hand held. Recovering from a stoke. 18 months ago. I still find some difficulty with speech and have partial paralysis with my right hand which makes type difficult - I am right handed. I am almost 85 now, I use ECHOLINK and Skype. I ha...

Re: yaesu WIRES
Thank you very much for your reply.
That was the conclusion I had drawn but I did hope that someone might have other ideas.
This means that I will have to switch my laptop to Windows, just keeping Cinnamon on my desktop. Ah! well I still remember
something about W10.

yaesu WIRES solved
Can anyone tell me a method of using WIRES with Yaesu products and using Linux Mint Cinnamon?
Or is it only supported by Microsoft?

Re: Is 76 too old?
Whatever you do, don't ask my mom this question. She switched to Linux at the tender age of 78, she's now 83 and she won't appreciate the insinuation that she's too old for anything! Hats off to your mother. I am 84 now and recovering from a stoke. Surprising what you learn to do with a left hand, ...

Re: Spam Filters on TalkTalk
I have one TalkTalk address (I have others as well but not TT). TalkTalk is my ISP but I read any TT mail in Thunderbird. The Account settings in Thunderbird should deal with your issue as far as I see.

For the record Vladimir00, I have only made 83 posts since being here for a little over two years. Like you I never felt that they were that important, but you never know. Many who read this board do not post on it but do get benefit and help from threads that are of interest to them. I stay here fo...

Re: Failed To Fetch Fireox 80.0.1
I am able to download this 80.1 version but it takes much longer than usual - anything from 15 to 20 minutes. I tried three times but gave up. It is not that important to me.

Re: Clem Lefebvre interview
I believe that had I not been told that Mint was suitable for beginners and those wishing to move from Windows 10, then I guess I may still be stuck with W10. It takes a while to learn - as does any new project. Windows XP took me a few months to get it all as I wanted it. Linux Mint Cinnamon took l...

Re: Firefox/Mozilla
The thing is, that only the big browsers are secure browsers. Because only their makers have the money and manpower to keep browser security up to date. The web browser is, by far, the most attacked piece of software on your computer. Therefore you absolutely need one that meets the highest securit...

Re: Firefox/Mozilla
Curiously, although using Linux Mint for a while now, I only just started using Firefox. It is improved to what I remember a while ago. I switched to FF after the nonsense (2nd. time) with video on Opera, which I have used for some years. I also use Vivaldi now - another improved browser also - as a...

Re: Question about video in Opera browser
When I upgraded - clean install from Mint Cinnamon 18 to 19, I had the same issue with Opera - no web cams or live streaming. I do not remember how I solved it but the same has happened with a clean install of Mint Cinnamon 20. I also lost sound. I subsequently had to use Firefox, which for some rea...

John. you may already realise that Qtel can be got from the Synaptic Package Manager. The great thing seems to be that Amateur Radio is the first entry on the list.

Re: Amateur Radio Programs
Hello John, there are quite a few Hams here so maybe more help that I can give might be forthcoming. However, I use Skype and Echolink on my laptop, the microphone being part of Sennheiser head mic and earphones. Skype detects the mic and as you probably know had the test call facility for checking ...

Re: Sony Vaio laptop no wifi
I had an issue with no WfFi with a SONY VAIO, but Ethernet worked. Simple put I had moved the miniature slider switch on the left hand side of the front edge of the laptop and inadvertently switched the WiFi off. Hopefully that is what you may have done. It seems an easy thing to do when moving a la...

Re: Dear community.
My desktop tower gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was just the psu but it was, apparently, more than that. I have had it since the demise of XP. Initially installed with Windows 8.1, upgraded to W10. After a few years of W10 I decided to give Linux Mint a try. Starting with Cinn...

Re: Mate vs Cinnamon
I kicked off, with Linux Mint Cinnamon when it was 17.something. I always upgraded all new versions as they were released (not beta). For a year or so I ran dual boot with W10, however apart from updating W10 on a weekly basis I never used W10. I re-installed version 19.1 from a DVD and ditched the ...

Re: Hello from The Mild, Mild West (UK)
Welcome dm999, from someone just a little south of you in Devon. My foray into Linux (Cinnamon 17) saw me with a dual boot Cinnamon/Windows 10 for about a year. I used Cinnamon all the time and eventually, once I was totally confident with Linus, decided to remove Windows10 as all I did was update i...

Re: WiFi stop working
Has your laptop got a switch which can turn off the WiFi? The reason I mention this is that my SONY VAIO has; it is on the edge, at the front, but being a small, black slider switch and the same colour as laptop edge was not obvious.. I recently carried my laptop to another room, inadvertently and u...
