Re: 19.2 BootFAIL=BusyBox/initramfs(used install defaults)

If it is a uefi bios, it sounds like you did not disable secure boot in the bios setup before you tried to install Linux. If I am not mistaken, it is also recommended to disable the fastboot option in the bios.

Re: Dell laptop gets extremely slow when it starts using disk swapfile

I just recently installed Linux Mint Mate 19.2 on an old, Dell Inspiron 570 desktop with an AMD Athlon II X3 435, Integrated HD4000 graphics and 4 gb of ram. I have an 8gb swap partition on it and I have never even seen it use swap with my normal use which is Firefox with many tabs open and vlc to v...

Re: Bootloader Problems On New SSD HD With ONLY LM19

A few weeks ago I installed Linux Mint Mate 19.1 to a new ssd. Upon rebooting it would always boot to the grub rescue menu and not the Linux logon screen. I solved it by opening gparted, booted with my usb bootable live persistent usb stick. First I deleted the whole drive. I created a small, ext4, ...

Re: Bootloader Problems On New SSD HD With ONLY LM19

Hi, yes I use "Something Else" for set the partitions... Now I have reinstalled LM with all the two partitions sets to "Logical", the boot problem persist.... https://i.imgur.com/QLYYzQj.png I believe you must install the bootloader to a primary partition, not a logical partition, sda, as others ha...

Re: Running Mint from USB pendrive, losing settings on reboot

1 1/2 to 2 years ago I created a persistent USB drive on a 32gb drive with the Universal USB installer in Windows. The trick is to choose NTFS as the format so a large, persistent drive can be created, instead of fat32. If you use the fat32 option, you are limited in the size of the persistent parti...

Re: LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in Linux Mint 19.2

I made it easier on my self since my last post. Try system-config-samba, it works well now if you jump through a few hoops, initally. Read the comments for it in the software manager area. Once you enter the initial commands properly, it will launch with no problems on subsequent reboots.

Re: LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in Linux Mint 19.2

Thanks for your kind answers. As an average user, I'm not very prone to use Samba. As per my own experience, It has to be configured thoroughly and sometimes it stops working. I tried LAN Share and NitroShare, but surprisingly it didn't work. Then, I just tried Transfer On Lan and it works. Althoug...

Re: LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in Linux Mint 19.2

I'm quite happy with Linux Mint 19.2; It's a superbly made OS and it works like a charm since the very first day of its launch. However, LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in our LAN (also using LAN Share, obviously). It didn't happen to me until now with other OS like Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Ubunt...

Re: Persistent Live USB

This is more of a help post than a question. I spent an entire day looking for the proper/correct way to get a persistent live usb setup and found nothing that worked. It seems that Debian 9/10, Ubuntu 18/19 (and I guess consequently Mint 19 as well) changed some stuff which made the method I used ...

SOLVED- Linux Mint 19.1 installed on drive with SATA to USB adapter.

I connected a SATA SSD with a SATA to USB adapter to my desktop computer and installed Linux Mint Mate 19.1 on it. If I now move the drive internally and select it to boot in the bios, will it boot ok now on the internal SATA port or does the grub bootloader need to be changed or Linux reinstalled ...

Re: Bootable Mint USB drive, loses changes after reboot

I also see a whole series of error messages spew by quickly during bootup, but as far as I can tell, after using this setup since July, it has not caused any known problems for me. Here is my dmesg output, if anybody would evaluate it: 4:08:00 SRC=192.168.2.10 DST=224.0.0.251 LEN=32 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x...

Re: Unable To Access Files On Windows 10 Share

I don't have a Windows 10 PC, but recent updates to it did away with SMB 1.1 and I believe it uses SMB 2.0 plus. Search for renabling SMB 1.0 or 1.1, (I don't remember which) in windows 10. There is a Micrsoft link on how to do it. I'm not sure if this will help, or not It has helped some Android us...

Re: Bootable Mint USB drive, loses changes after reboot

I have been running Linux Mint Mate from a Persistent, 32Gb Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 drive since July without any major problems. I used UUI to create it. The secret with it to get a persistent drive over the default 4Gb maximum is to first format it as an NTFS drive. If you use the UUI default, it is ...

Re: Win 10 upgrade and Samba issue

If my memory serves me correctly Microsoft enabled SMB 2. plus with a recent update. if you re-enable SMB 1.0, your guest account, I believe, will work. You will have to do some research in how to do that as I don't have a Window 10 box to try it on. I saw this posted on an Android forum thread on x...

Re: Live usb persistence over 4GB

Although I haven't setup a Mac with Window since the Lion days, I am wondering if BootCamp would also be another option to setup Windows. That is, if a BootCamp setup will boot from usb, not sure about that? Maybe someone else with recent experience can chime in. I am running a USB 3.0 capable, SanD...

Does anybody know if I can clone this to a larger thumb drive and expand it's space to the larger drive, with Clonzilla, perhaps? Re: Persistent USB thumb drive the easy way

I used the Universal USB installer in Window to create a Linux Mint Mate 18.1,32gb persistent drive. The trick to get a persistent drive over 4gbs with it is to first format it as NTFS. When using this, one must leave enough free space for UUI to copy the Linux ISO file to the drive. The first time ...

Re: hello, I have about 6 months in 32Gb USB in persistent mode version 18.1...

I am running linux mint mate also on a 32gb usb thumb drive with persistence. I was able to update linux mint mate from 18.1 to 18.2 through the update manager. So far I have experienced no problems. It does not update the 18.1 iso on the drive, but still boots from the 18.1 iso. I had tried copying...
