Re: problem of burning CD with Brasero

I'll second Pierre suggestion of xfburn one of the first things I install on my computers. It's just a simple straight forward tool that works. Good luck. I'll third this. Brasero doesn't work on my Mint 19 installation, but xfburn does flawlessly. I use it to burn Blu-Ray backups of my files and m...

Re: ShutDown Vbox before Shutting down Linux

I'm used an init sys v system and not this systemd related stuff, but you could try putting a script in /etc/rc0.d and /etc/rc6.d for shutting down the vm's. VirtualBox has a script in both directories already called K01virtualbox. Just makes sure it has a name that is before that one, like K01Shut...

Re: ShutDown Vbox before Shutting down Linux

The concept here is: If the user tells Linux mint to shutdown without shutting down VBox first then do a proper shutdown anyway. There is a option of start up programs. Why not an equivalent option for shutdown ... it is much more critical than start up. I'm used an init sys v system and not this s...

Re: Virus in a winetricks steam installer

I would get farther, but it never completely worked. Cox/Comcast suck and DirecTV requires a Windows program installation. It's no biggie - I rarely watch TV. I might add that trying to spoof sling.tv doesn't work either (through the browser) and must use a windows version of chrome/firefox, etc......

I have teams for work that I manage that are located in Eastern Europe. After today, it's an eight hour time difference until March. Ugh!

Hate DST. Just have just left it alone and not fall back.

Re: IBM to buy Red Hat

Struggling to digest IBM's press release mentioning the word "cloud" 41 times  I mean, that does nothing for us desktop Linux users. I can't (immediately) name a component IBM develops that is relevant for desktop Linux while Red Hat is a developer and sponsor of developers in that area. On th...

Do we normally need to update the motherboard drivers like we do in Windows, or the usual Linux Mint updates take care of it? I'm wondering if @Pierre confused himself with a BIOS update. Anyway, the answer to your question is a plain and simple absolutely not, with a few exceptions for things like...

Re: Dropbox - how to move folder ?

I have dropbox on an encrypted home folder. Dropbox is dropping support for encrypted folders so I need to move it. Unlike windows there is no gui which you can launch to move the folder onto an unencrypted drive. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall dropbox but it doesn't give me an option to m...

Actually, I found an easier way and you don't need to mess with grub:

But, we're getting off topic here...

You can do that but it is NOT recommended. Use an administrative account - with sudo.
You're not my supervisor!

Just glad to be rid of

Code: Select all

sudo
. I at least want to get back to some sanity when using the terminal like I did with Slackware for the past 10 years....
