Re: Why does Linux Mint work when others don't?
so - on your machine - the installer did install alongside - correctly ?.
Yes. It was maybe 3 years ago that I did the dual boot install. I can't remember exactly what I did, but the process went smoothly. More recently, I selected the 'erase disk' option, so all trace of windows i...

Re: Why does Linux Mint work when others don't?
Problem - The only machine without Linux in the "office" is an Acer Veriton X4630G which originally had Win8 but when I came across it had Win10. When trying to put Linux on it, it couldn't see the whole disk. It could see there was Windows to be loaded alongside but on a disk much smalle...

Re: Change "My Computer" in Nemo?
Yes, it annoys me a lot. I think the 'my' style started with Windows, back in the '90s.

Re: Outdated HPLIP driver package for my HP 410 Printer
I did this HPLIP installation yesterday, and encountered the same warning. Since I know I can always use Timeshift to get back to my previous state, I went ahead with the installation, followed all the prompts, and everything worked correctly.

Re: 19.1 looks just the same as 19?
OP here. After some google searching, I went to the 'welcome screen' by searching in the menu. This gave me the choice between old and new layouts. I selected 'modern' and sure enough saw the various changes mentioned in the whats-new list. I was expecting to be given that choice at some point durin...

19.1 looks just the same as 19? (Solved)
Just upgraded. But my user interface looks exactly the same as before, apart from larger panel icons. Everything seems to work, and keeping things the same suits me fine. But I'm puzzled as to why I don't see any significant changes.
And yes, I did check that I'm indeed on 19.1 Tessa!

Re: Radeon HD5450 with Linux Mint?
What do you mean by "moved the DVI connector over? Before installing the graphics card, I was running from the internal GPU on the Sandy Bridge CPU. That came out of the back of the computer as a DVI connector. After the card was installed, I moved the display connector from the Sandy Bridge o...

Re: Radeon HD5450 with Linux Mint?
yertchuk, did you pre-install any of the following to get that to work or did these install as part of the AMD Catalyst™ 15.9 Proprietary Ubuntu 14.04 x86_64 Video Driver for Graphics Accelerators package? No. All I did was plug in the board, and move the DVI connector over. Rebooted, and my 2450x1...

I'm running a Radeon HD7450. Didn't have to do anything, it just worked. Running Mint 19 Cinnamon. It also worked fine on 18.

Error code 0x80070570 installing Windows 10
Virtualbox 5.2.10 running on Linux Mint. Installation of W10 goes OK until towards the end of 'getting files ready for installation'. Then I get the error code with an explanation that some files cannot be found. I've downloaded the iso several times from Microsoft, with the same result. Also tried ...

Re: Mint Cinnamon 18.3 freezing on file transfer
I have the same problem. However, xfe works very well, and is a good workaround. It's a shame that a workaround is needed at all for such a basic function.
The xfe app is in the repository.

Re: Aptik tutorial
So... did aptik work for you? I was curious to see if Aptik really did everything that's promised. So I saved my Mint 19 Cinnamon setup, using all the basic default selections. Then I loaded a fresh installation on Mint 19 Cinnamon onto another computer, actually a really feeble machine using an In...

Re: Geek Factor: 10
Not that it helps the OP, but I've had no trouble installing Mint on a variety of systems, including a 10+ year old Toshiba xp laptop. A lot of the google advice that you find is unduly complicated in my opinion. No need to dive into HDD partitioning, etc., the Mint installer will do all that for yo...

Thanks Jerry. I was expecting to see a 512 byte DOS partition as sda1, with sda2 being the main ext4 partition.

No MBR partition on working installation (SOLVED)
My Mint 19 installation is working perfectly. Installation was done by taking the 'erase disk and install' option. Afterwards I shrank the / partition and created an NTFS partition to store data from previous Windows installations. This is what I have now: https://imgur.com/cc65aBl I was expecting t...

Re: Can't create a shortcut to a folder
I realize this is a bit late, but I happened on this thread while I was looking for ways to create symlinks from the Cinnamon GUI. Actually, it's simple: you highlight the target file (not right click) and then select the 'edit' drop down menu. "Make Link" then appears! I do agree that thi...
