I hear ya and it pains me as I've experienced that too but once getting someone sitting in the driving seat and prompting them through an easy Mint install I usually have a convert. I know some have felt confident enough to do their own install and even for friends. Most folks aren't power users so ...

DAW's and sequencers for recording music
Now that Steinberg has rolled out the 3.6.7 version of their plug-in SDK for Windows, Mac, iOS, and now Linux is anybody having any success using VST's with a native Linux DAW? Even for just recording audio what's your favourite app?
