Re: Windows 10 Finally Patched

I'm going to state the obvious here but.... IMO Windows (anything pick a version) is not even close to on par with linux when it comes to both security and stability. While Windows 10 has gotten better (I'm stuck with it just like many others are) overall it has seen tons more exploits than linux li...

Re: Ubuntu 17.10 Vs Mint

+1 on the forums mentioned earlier. Definitely impressed with how helpful Mint forums are. I'll have to admit though coming from a system admin background as with many others I've not had to be very active when it comes to requesting help. Having said this just from testing in virtualbox Ubuntu 17.1...

Re: Which do you prefer: Cinnamon or XFCE?

Cinnamon is definitely preferred if a laptop/desktop that has decent processing power. Granted if I'm dealing with something that's aged/older hardware or limited cpu/ram I'll typically throw on xfce or mate. Having said this both are good options but Cinnamon is definitely a bit more flexible/easie...

Re: Install W/L Printer in VBox?

I strongly suggest you research virtualbox and look up about NAT and bridged nics first. This will save you headaches. With virtualbox if you are using a flexible type adapter/NAT you may need to forward ports or dmz the printer IP somehow - it can get tricky. This is why I mentioned about bridging ...

Re: Install W/L Printer in VBox?

Well for one thing since you're in a vbox it's not technically "wireless" (the host is however the vbox if setup "bridged nic" is bridged with the host)... granted all you should need to do is run the install and then point it to the printer's IP address on the network. I am presuming the vbox host ...

Re: Favorite edition

For me it's Cinnamon however for less powerful machines/hardware I've found Xfce works best performance wise (granted that's to be expected).

Re: Anyone ever started a forum?

Seconding SMF, it has a lot of add-ons and it's open-source. I was more on the Global Mod end of things, but it was enough to make me loathe users. +1 3rd on SMF from me. SimpleMachines Forum is definitely one of the best out there. I've used SMF numerous times myself for setting up new forums. Sho...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

First, I did not switch to Mint for myself because I am a long time Debian and BSD user. I will stick to these OS even if I run a few other OS either in virtual machines or on some spare real machines. 1/ I did this for my mother (who is 75) to switch from Windows 7 to an easy to use and stable Lin...
