Re: Broken file system on USB key

To completely erase the drive by writing zeros to every cell: sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=1M Here again make doubly sure that sdX is the correct drive designation This will take a while depending on the size of the drive--after which you will need to create a new partition table--use gparte...

Re: Broken file system on USB key

Hello Virus- Here is how I treat misbehaving sticks. Give it a read through before proceeding. 1 . Erase the boot sectors and partition table: Copy/paste the following into a terminal: sudo shred -s $((2048*512)) -vzn0 /dev/sdX where sdX is the device--be absolutely sure this designation is correct...

Re: Can't format USB Stick

I'd first have a look at it with gparted (you will have to install from software manager). I think creating a new partition table will wipe it. Then add a new partition in the format of your choice. Alternatively - Don't know whether this will work, but worth a try. Install mkusb, see https://help....

I'm afraid if you encrypted it it may be lost without the original encryption key.
Yes, that is a possibility, however, I don't even get prompted to enter the encryption key so that I can unlock it. I remember the key

Can't format USB Stick

Hello, I am running Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit on a new Lenovo Laptop. I have a USB-Stick(Intenso Alu Line 64GB anthrazit) which I had encrypted on my older laptop(which is broken and can't read USB devices anymore) under the same operating system. I can't use this USB stick and I can't format it. I ...

Laptop not reading USB Wi-Fi adapter

Hi, my laptop's internal Wi-Fi card is not working properly, so I need to connect through a USB dual band dongle. It all went fine, until a couple of days ago. I re-installed Mint and encrypted my OS, as well as my home folder(that was the purpose of reinstalling). Now my laptop is not reading my US...

Hard disk full

Hello, my hard disk is almost full and I don't know why. I used to have about 60GB of free space and now I have only 16. I backed up my data, which is 24.5GB, but that's still not enough to waste that much space. Is there any way to find out what's taking up so much space? I also deleted most of my ...

Re: Cannot install GNU Octave

HI whois1230, I do not see anything wrong with the results of the "inxi -Fxzd" console terminal command, so that is a good thing. On the Software Manager screen in the lower right is the "flatpak" option where you can search for and install various Flatpak software packages. If the particular softw...
