Laptop not reading USB Wi-Fi adapter

Hi, my laptop's internal Wi-Fi card is not working properly, so I need to connect through a USB dual band dongle. It all went fine, until a couple of days ago. I re-installed Mint and encrypted my OS, as well as my home folder(that was the purpose of reinstalling). Now my laptop is not reading my US...

Re: Laptop not reading external HDD

Hello Friend, Try to open the Disk Management tool. To do so, press Windows Key + R, type diskmgmt.msc into the Run dialog, and press Enter. You should see your external drive listed in the Disk Management window. And Sometime heavy-duty removable hard drives may even have to be plugged in with a s...

Hard disk full

Hello, my hard disk is almost full and I don't know why. I used to have about 60GB of free space and now I have only 16. I backed up my data, which is 24.5GB, but that's still not enough to waste that much space. Is there any way to find out what's taking up so much space? I also deleted most of my ...

Re: Cannot install GNU Octave

HI whois1230, I do not see anything wrong with the results of the "inxi -Fxzd" console terminal command, so that is a good thing. On the Software Manager screen in the lower right is the "flatpak" option where you can search for and install various Flatpak software packages. If the particular softw...

Re: Cannot install GNU Octave

Hi whois1230, It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run " inxi -Fxzd " and " lsusb " from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information. It looks like there is a "flatpak" installation option that you m...

Re: Backup partition

I concur that it's best to have a separate SSD/HDD/USB drive for backups. I replace the optical drive (DVD/CD) on many laptops with a Sata 2.5" hard disk enclosure (using the original DVD/CD faceplate) which contains a 1TB SSD/HDD for backups. These 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD enclosures fit in the place of ...

Re: Backup partition

As I want to encrypt my whole drive, I will be forced to use external storage devices. Timeshift snapshots

Hi, I'm wondering if I should keep all my timeshift snapshots or only leave the latest one, considering my system is running smoothly now. I think the earlier snapshots only waste hard disk space, but I could possibly be wrong. Any advice?
