Catweazel; thanks for the link. What am I missing? There's no reference to the Pi anywhere!

Re: Mint and Pi - sharing
OK, better give more info!
Upstairs, there are movies, tv shows and music in shared folders on a desktop pc running LM19.
Downstairs, there is a Raspberry Pi running Xbian Kodi which can't "see" the shared folders.
Help, please?

Mint and Pi - sharing
Hi all
Trying to do a server to client over router; Linux Mint to Raspberry Pi Kodi. The annoying thing is I've done it before successfully but Kodi had to be reinstalled and now I can't remember how I did everything!
So any help or links would be much appreciated.
Ta

pc as amp?
Is it possible to use the pc as an amp? I've connected a cassette deck (to hear if some of my tapes are worth keeping), but can't get any sound out of it. I'll go through what I've done so far and maybe someone can spot an obvious hole! Connected line-outs to line-in, checked speakers are working (O...

Re: shared folders need user/password?
Am I getting this right? If I run "sudo smbpasswd -a ian", then then kodi/pi will just access these folders? It's that simple?
Will try this tomorrow. Tonight it's La Traviata!

Re: shared folders need user/password?
The shared folders are indeed on the Mint system, but as I don't live in the same house, this will have to wait until tomorrow!

Thanks for the link, but I'm afraid 90% of it went over my head.
I also couldn't find any references to my problem!

[SOLVED] shared folders need user/password?
In trying to use an old RPi as a media player (downstairs, connected to a TV), I came across the subject problem even though I cleared the shared folders (upstairs, on a desktop PC running LM18) to be accessed by every/anyone. Don't know where to go from here. Not even sure if it's a Pi issue or a L...

desktop to pi to tv
Not really sure if this a newbie question or not, but here goes. Basically my Dad's DVDs, CDs and photos are going to be ripped and stored on a desktop (LXLE), sent by Ethernet to Raspberry Pi (Openelec/Kodi) and then to HDTV. Any software/hardware suggestions and, obviously, tips on where to start ...

access to drives connected to pi
I've got a Raspberry Pi to which are connected a few drives. When the big TV is being used by She-who-must-be-obeyed, I can access these drives on my downstairs W10 laptop, put on headphones and enjoy my own stuff. I would occasionally like to do the same on my upstairs LM18.1Mate laptop, but have b...

Re: screensaver settings
Thanks.
They all now use my pictures folder.
Let's hope that it kicks in (because the previous one didn't! I had to Ctrl-Alt-L).

The screensavers that use pictures don't use mine; just some primary colour image. How do I get AntSpotlight, BlitSpin, Bumps, Carousel, DecayScreen, Distort, FlipScreen3D, GFlux, Gleidescope(?), GLSlideshow, Jigsaw, Maze(?), MirrorBlob, Photopile, Ripples, RotZoomer, SlideScreen, Slip, Spotlight, T...

some keys aren't working
Home, End, Delete, Page Up, Page Down and the four arrow keys have stopped working on my Dad's LM17 XFCE pc. I've checked the "Accessability" section and nothing has been accidentally ticked. I checked the "Input Method" section and got this: Current configuration for the input m...
