Re: LM19.3: WiFi doesn't connect on first boot

Thanks, I think that I've only run the 5.3 and 5.4 kernels on this installation. I'll give the 4.15 kernel a go

LM19.3: WiFi doesn't connect on first boot

First world problem but my WiFi doesn't always connect on first boot; on maybe 70% of boots WiFi doesn't connect although the computer seems to boot normally but without a WiFi connection. If I restart the computer then it connects to WiFi first time every time and WiFi works throughout the session ...

Re: (SOLVED) Driver error? Intel Wireless 8260

Thanks both. I went down the "ignore" route and the latest bunch of updates (inc kernel 5.3.0-26-generic x86_64, drivers and mint report) seems to have sorted it out

[SOLVED] Driver error? Intel Wireless 8260

On boot my laptop briefly shows a text-based login dialogue before switching to the GUI version. A couple of days ago my laptop booted with maybe 10 lines of additional text before the login GUI appeared, but gone too quickly to read. On login the WiFi wasn't working which isn't normal, no obvious p...

Re: new Mint install on laptop shows everything smaller in display

My laptop is 1920 x 1080 on a 15.5" screen and makes everything smaller than is ideal, but it can be fixed: 1) Run the Driver Manager and see if that suggests a new video driver 2) Do as suggested by Pjotr ^^ Menu - Preferences - Display - Settings Tab...Set User interface scaling to double That's t...

Re: Files corrupted & now locked out.

If you can't sort the login problem then booting with a Linux Mint live USB/DVD should allow you to access your current files, but DON'T use the install option

Re: Update LM installation to new components

I can't remember how I set the BIOS on the older machine, I do remember that it took a lot of setting experiments. Live LM works well, but I think I'll wait and install a clean 19.3 in a few weeks onto a newly-fitted SSD
Thanks both

SOLVED: Update LM installation to new components

I have LM19.2 working well on a laptop fitted with an SSD I want to put that SSD into a different laptop that has better specs, a dedicated graphics card, etc, but is fitted with a hard disk drive. If I do the swap can I retain the current installation and how do I update LM to recognise the new har...

Re: "Cinnamon has crashed"

You're absolutely right... it booted fine to the login screen and looked normal. As soon as I entered my login the GUI had gone; a mouse arrow and that was it
No matter, I was going to reinstall anyway, which is now all done so I'll mark this "solved", although it kind of isn't :)
Thanks for your help

Re: "Cinnamon has crashed"

Crashed again yesterday (9th) on updating. System Reports has _usr_bin_cinnamon.1000.crash from 9th Feb
What happens if I uninstall Cinnamon using Synaptic? Does it adopt the fallback GUI? I will back up first :)

Solved "Cinnamon has crashed"

Can I jump in here too... my old laptop has been stable with Mint for several years, and has been running 19.1 since Christmas. The last two updates (yesterday and today) seem to have caused a crash in Cinnamon. I habitually update as my last job and then shut down; on shutting down I get told that ...

Clean install of 19.1; icons and the "look" is so much clearer. Seems to tick along more quickly on my old laptop compared to previous versions
Thanks

I use ClamAV for the simple reason that my online banking T&Cs demand an AV. It may not be necessary, but it's needed
