A top-class job. My little Asus X205T will now boot LMDE 32-bit without any messing around adding files from elsewhere
It remains to be seen whether Cinnamon will run, so it might be back to MX Linux, but that isn't a fault with LMDE6
Excellent, thanks

Re: Why would you choose LMDE over the main flagship Linux Mint (Ubuntu)?
My laptop with its 2015 motherboard much prefers LMDE5 to LM21.1, maybe its the difference between the 5.10 and 5.15 kernels?
It's got the same Cinnamon version so no visible differences. It's missing some little used bits like the Driver Manager but it all works and it's stable

Re: could someone give me experience LMDE

installed nvidia-detect, ran that in terminal which told me which driver I needed
installed nvidia-driver (in my case)
It works

Re: could someone give me experience LMDE
I prefer LMDE5 to LM21.1 because it has many of the same features, e.g. Cinnamon 5.6, but it works with my laptop better That could be the difference between kernel 5.10 (LMDE) rather than 5.15 (LM21); maybe newer isn't always best :D LM21 has a driver manager and I could install NVIDIA drivers easi...

Re: EMMC install issues
You can run into various problems with settings in addition to Secure Boot and Fastboot. Windows disk encryption and Intel Smart Response are two examples, so have a look at setting these The LM installer doesn't work with my (very old) Asus with eMMC. See if another distro installs, MX Linux and De...

Re: lmde5 : complicated situation, installation
It looks like you have one hard drive in your G-Parted picture, split into many partitions, is that correct? If your data is backed-up to the same drive then it's a copy and not a true back-up; if the drive fails you lose everything. Your back-up should be on a separate drive kept somewhere else. I'...

Re: Differences in LMDE and Debian?
LMDE is "friendlier" in a GUI-way than Debian with an update manager, for example. As a newcomer to Debian I spent too much time looking for terminal commands.

The options that you've mentioned will need a certain amount of additional work to install due to the peculiarities of the X205T

Is there a reason for using terminal commands? In Firefox left-click https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=297 Scroll down to "Integrity and Authenticity">>right click on "sha256sum.txt">>left-click "Save Link As..." and you're pretty much done, follow the dialogue Repea...

Re: Installing Mint on ASUS X205TA (Linux 64bit on 32bit UEFI device)
...and the answer is, "Yes, they do". MX-Linux 21 Wildflower works well out of the box although the auto update didn't. A couple of apt-get lines in Terminal sorted that one My preference would have been LMDE5, which is on my laptop, but I can't get that to install on the X205TA Debian 10 ...

I'm not clear if you compared the sha256sum from the file download to the published sha256sum.txt
That needs to be done either immediately before the step you describe or immediately after

Re: Verify ISO image
I've raised this on threads a few times. There are several ways to verify ISOs that are much easier for people unfamiliar with LM than the current installation guide. I raised a task on GitLab some time agoI never could make sense of how to verify downloads using checksums.

Re: Verify ISO image
Is that correct?Short answer: The ISO is legit.
Code: Select all
d@BC:~/Downloads$ sha256sum -b yourfile.iso
sha256sum: yourfile.iso: No such file or directory
The signing key is correct but there isn't a link to the ISO
