Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 15 june 2011

Hello malligt When you did it through the terminla and got to those errors, did you try pressing "q" to contiunue? This happened to me also, it got to a certain spot, then it showed an error and no matter what you punched into the keyboard it did nothing, zero had a post on pressing q, it...

Re: Update issues

i tried booting from usb but my computer won't even detect that now. When i reboot, it automatically boots into mint without checking for other media or distros. I remember having turned on dependency check for faster boot, not sure if that caused this issue, but looks like even bios check seem to h...

Re: Update issues

Am using grub2, LMDE grub does pick up other distros, when i do update-grub. The problem is when i reboot, i can't make out anything from the screen as to what's happening until i see Mint login screen. Earlier i used to see my Thinkpad logo, followed by grub prompt and depending on whether i go wit...

[SOLVED] Update issues

Hi, I did a dist-upgrade after quite a long time and got about 800MB worth of updates. I had grub from a different distro that used to host a few other distros besides LMDE. Everything went through fine with the updates except when i rebooted my machine the original grub was overwritten, most likely...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

Yes, on startup, RAM usage is quite low compared to Main edition, after starting FF and other apps it shoots up but it doesn't go down by that much amount when they're closed. Maybe they've some memory leaks, not sure. But no other complaints so far other than this. As with any Mint release things j...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

i had the same questions bugging me, see lot of gnome and qt dependencies as well  I don't really have any complaint about the speed, feels quite snappy, but RAM usage is definitely on the higher side, pretty much same as gnome which was quite disappointing. If there was some way to remove al...

Re: Mint 10 LXDE RC issues and bug.

While installing there was no option to choose bootloader installation - whether it was needed or not. It got installed by default and overwrote the existing bootloader that i had. Grub2 is quite cumbersome to work with especially if there are more than 1 kernel, it lists out everything unless we ch...

Re: Mint 10 LXDE

One word on this release - Superb, though that's an understatement. Pretty good so far. Had just one question, is there a way i can change repository to debian sid/testing so i didn't need to re-install every few months. Will it cause any breaks and is there any services that i can shut off w/o impa...

Re: High memory usage

Yes, 700MB is well within limits when there's 2GB of ram, but still found it to be high when only KDE & browser was running and with effects turned off. Yes, PCLOS definitely is good for KDE but synaptic refresh and search is slow compared to Mint, that's the only drawback. Mepis is quite good t...

High memory usage

Installed Mint 9 kde and found that memory usage is quite high, reaches upto 700MB with just Firefox or Chrome and probably skype running. When i looked up in system monitor there were lot of bash shells running even though i hadn't invoked bash. Lots of getty, winbindd, kio_trash and many more proc...

Re: Ethernet/Wireless problem

This issue can be closed. There was a setting issue in router and i had specified only 2 machines to be connected to the network. I guess it exceeded that limit and hence was not working. After increasing the limit ethernet started working.

Ethernet/Wireless problem

I had to reset my Linksys WRT54G router to fix a security breach issue. While doing this i reset router twice, changed SSID and also disabled SSID broadcast. While testing, internet through ethernet worked once, but subsequently it stopped working. I did lot of reboots, removed default ethernet from...
