Re: Disappearing/glitching mouse cursor
This is still a problem in MInt XFCE 18.x and 19.x. I think it is a problem with the NVIDIA C51 [GeForce 6150LE].

Thunar can not browse Windows network
I have a mix of Windows, Mint 18.3 XFCE and Mint 19 XFCE computers on my network. If I click on Browse Network in Thunar on any Mint 18.3 PC Thunar will list all the Windoze machines regardless of version (XP ...10), but none show up on any Mint 19 PC. This seems like a loss of functionality from 18...

Mouse pointer disappears
XFCE 18.x and 19 No mouse pointer upon resume from sleep Has happened on multiple PCs sometimes switching consoles Ctrl-Alt-F1 then F7 will get it back but this is a work-around and not something that should be necessary on 'the best' OS Just loaded Mint 19 XFCE 64 on a Dell E521 Athlon 64, GeForce ...

noapic - does it disable multiple cores?
I had to add noapic to grub to resolve boot problems on a Dell Dimension C521. I have read a few comments that using noapic will disable multiple cores but I have not seen this in anything resembling 'official' documentation. In this instance the CPU is a single core Athlon 64 , not X2, but I'd like...

Re: Secure Boot from hard drive - Dell Inspiron 15?
... M$ and the OEMs have "colluded" to put up roadblocks to the installation of Linux... Whether there is actual collusion or not, it seems like a pretty clear case of anti-competitive practices by a company (M$) which has about 90% share of the desktop operating system market. Maybe not a monopoly...

Re: Secure Boot from hard drive - Dell Inspiron 15?
I have spent a lot of time reading the rodsbooks and other references. They give me lots of information about keys and efi shim files and stuff like that, which I think I basically understand, However nothing really tells me how to fix the problem. I now have encountered this problem on 2 additional...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?
Windows 10, especially the forced and basically uncontrollable and sometimes failed updates. Who wants to see a 'please wait' blue screen on a regular basis? Also 'obsolete' XP and Vista. I have converted many customers. Low spec XP PCs get Lubuntu, better ones get Mint XFCE. Started that way, but a...

Re: What would you use if Mint wasn't available?
I like Mint XFCE so I would probably use Xubuntu. From what I can see it's about the same with fewer included apps. One thing I think is superior about Xubuntu is how it handles UEFI/Secure Boot. I just spent a lot of time trying to get Mint XFCE to boot from the hard drive with Secure Boot enabled ...

I have /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu Do I make another directory /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft and if so where do I get all the files you listed or are they just dummy blank files? Re: Secure Boot from hard drive - Dell Inspiron 15?
M$'s Secure Boot still requires a certified bootloader to be first registered or loaded in UEFI-BIOS firmware through the Internet before the software/OS can be booted or installed successfully. This online registration or signing process can often be incomplete or interrupted or "sabotaged", eg gr...

Secure Boot from hard drive - Dell Inspiron 15?
I booted a new Dell Inspiron 15-3567 from a Mint 18.3 live USB. No problems with secure boot. I Installed Mint (replacing Windows not dual booting). But when the install completed and the system rebooted I got "SupportAssist is running a system scan to detect any potential hardware problems." The re...

How do I remove stuff installed during failed wine install attempt?
I first tried installing wine through the software center but it said it was unavailable. So then I searched around and tried some other methods I found, ending up at winhq.org. I followed the steps at https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu The last step sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-stab...

Re: [Not Solved] The “Meltdown” bug is hitting Intel
I'm afraid that anyone who switched to Linux to avoid hardware support/compatibility issues did so for the wrong reason. Hardware support is the biggest problem in Linux in general ......This is obviously a real problem judging from the number of forum posts on the subject. I don't see any answer r...

Re: [Not Solved] The “Meltdown” bug is hitting Intel
New kernel 14.13.0.26 broke video on 2 PCs so far. Nvidia-304 driver won't allow proper resolution on desktop with GeForce 6150SE. Changing to open source driver fixed. Toshiba NB205 netbook same problem and video corruption but there is no alternative driver. Isn't this the kind of shtuff we switch...

GeForce 6150SE Display resolution limited after updates
Mint XFCE 18.3 will only allow up to 1024x768, no widescreen modes after last Mint updates seems like maybe it is not detecting the modes the monitor will do. Graphics = NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] driver: Screenshot_2018-01-13_23-08-15.png OK with prior kernel 4.10.0-42 but not with 4.13...
