Re: KDE on future versions of Mint (+20)

Namely, installing multiple desktops is a REALLY STUPID NOOB IDEA. I've never known of a single knowledgeable Linux user who would do it. I don't know whether or not this is just a Mint issue as Opensuse lets you have install multiple different DEs on the same system. For example I use KDE Plasma a...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!

I just tried openSUSE tumbleweed, and while it installed and ran well, installing NVIDIA's proprietary driver was a total nightmare. I was getting compiler segfaults on a clean install. Anyway, based on your recommendation I'm downloading Neon now. catweazel really surprised to read your comments h...

Re: lm18.2-64 how to change to kde desktop from cinnamon

I am quite new to using mint (and have never used cinnamon) but it might be worth:

installing xfce (install the package xfce4 which will pull in all the necessary packages)

log out of cinnamon and log into xfce

remove cimmamon and install kde

As a first step I would make a copy of all your data.

Re: Help migrating from other distro.

I agree with you just copy the data, let Mint reformat the drive and restore the data. Although linux distributions (generally use the same filing structure) dfferent ones tend to have small differences to usr id's.

What a great way to pick up system info.

Re: YouTube downloader

I use clipgrab (see https://launchpad.net/~clipgrab-team/+a ... ubuntu/ppa) but most modern browers (firefox, chrome etc) can do this using an add-on. Just click on 'add-ons' and use the search term 'downloading youtube videos'. Only use an add-on that has lots of positive reviews.

Re: Should I update my kernel

I installed 18.2 kde plasma version today. This uses 4.8. Updating to 4.11 does seem to give a slight overall speed boost (on reasonably modern p/c).
