What do you think about this script to clean the RetroArch configuration?

Sometimes I mess the RetroArch configuration up and I have to configure everything again because I don't like the default configuration. As I was tired of doing the same every time I changed something accidentally, I made this script to restore my preferred configuration. The preferred configuration...

Re: what are the key things that could be improved in firefox?

Not to mention that in order to completely disable telemetry in Firefox you need to disable some toolkit.telemetry preferences in about:config . Even if you disable it from the GUI, some preferences are still set to true . Mozilla seems to like users going to about:config despite the warning shown w...

Re: what are the key things that could be improved in firefox?

Pocket and some other crap are referred to as "features" and can be found in /usr/lib/firefox/browser/features/ (on my Mint 18.3 XFCE). You can simply delete any "feature" that is bothering you. With a Firefox update it is likely that some or all will return however. I don't see Pocket there... $ l...

Re: what are the key things that could be improved in firefox?

It would be nice if Firefox didn't integrate the Pocket extension, I'm tired of having to set the extensions.pocket.enabled option to false in about:config every time I reset my Firefox configuration. Also, am I the only one who thinks the old logo was better than the new one? I'm glad the Mint-X ic...

Re: Hiding the splash doesn't show the boot status

I could finally get it to work. Oddly, if I edit the line pressing the "E" key in the GRUB boot menu and exiting pressing Ctrl. + X it doesn't work. I did it from the GRUB boot menu because I wanted to make it temporary to see if I like the results, but editing the /etc/default/grub file and running...

[SOLVED] Hiding the splash doesn't show the boot status

I tried to make the boot process reports visible by removing the "quiet splash" option in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line, but when I boot my machine, the screen remains black and no information of the boot process is show, but it boots flawlessly. I think this is caused by the Nvidia graphic dr...

How do I install Linux Mint 19 in a different drive?

I currently dual boot Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon and Windows 7. I'd like to do a fresh install of Linux Mint 19 because I want to switch to the MATE desktop environment. Mint is installed in /dev/sdb , and Windows 7 is in /dev/sda . My computer came like this when I bought it, that's why I have them i...

gnome-nibbles plays no sound

The game gnome-nibbles doesn't play any sound in Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon. I tried to install it in a Linux Mint 19 and Ubuntu 16.04 virtual machine and only the Ubuntu machine plays sounds. Sound is enabled in the configuration tab, so I don't know what's wrong. Also, both Mint and Ubuntu have the ...

Re: Installing GNU Octave requires upgrading mesa

It's not being turned down it's just hidden in the update manager GUI and not selected for update by update manager because of your choice of policy. It can still be updated if required as a dependency or via the command line as you apt-get simulation demonstrated. You can check what else is not be...

Re: Installing GNU Octave requires upgrading mesa

I have Mint 18.3 Cinnamon installed in VirtualBox. I have it set to install all updates. I never use Software Manager, I always use Synaptic. I searched in Synaptic for Octave, marked it for install, and told it to do it. It did. Having never used Octave before, I really can't say that everything i...

[SOLVED] Installing GNU Octave requires upgrading mesa

When I try to install GNU Octave the software manager tells me an upgrade of mesa is needed. Here's the output of a simulation in apt-get : $ apt-get --dry-run install octave NOTE: This is only a simulation! apt-get needs root privileges for real execution. Keep also in mind that locking is deactiva...

Re: Is it possible to make Cinnamon look like GNOME 2?

You can also apt install mint-meta-mate and switch to MATE at the login screen, no need to reinstall. PS: To get the layout you want, run apt install mate-tweak then run MATE Tweak from the menu and select the pre-defined GNOME 2 panel layout. After that right-click your panel and select to reset i...

Is it possible to make Cinnamon look like GNOME 2?

I would like to make Cinnamon look like GNOME 2 / MATE, having two panels and the "Applications", "Places" and "System" menus. Like this: https://www.cmscritic.com/site/assets/files/7774/ubuntu_mate_16_10_review_-_7.1129x0-is.png I know the best way would be to install MATE, but I don't want to rein...

No you can't; Cinnamon Control Center has a hard dependency on gnome-online-accounts.

If you haven't configured any online accounts it doesn't do anything.
I see. I won't uninstall it, then.
Thank you for your help, xenopeek!

[SOLVED] Can gnome-online-accounts be removed?

I would like to know if it's safe to remove the gnome-online-accounts package. I have never added an account and I doubt I will. Will the removal cause any malfunction?
I'm using Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia and Cinnamon 3.6.6 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3.3).
Thanks in advance.

XPlayer doesn't install plugin required for MIDI files

I'm trying to reproduce a MIDI file in XPlayer, but it says I need to install the gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad plugin. When I click on the "install" button in the dialog, nothing happens. I tried to install it via the Software Manager, but it turned out it was already installed: $ dpkg -s gstreamer1.0-p...
