The focal point is certainly, 'systemd' in this whole Debian vs Devuan scenario. I'm sure you've read this, http://judecnelson.blogspot.in/2014/09/systemd-biggest-fallacies.html which in short, summarises that Systemd can and does segfault, crash and freeze, due to its inherently broken design.
