Re: Help with OPENSSL notice during Linux Mint update
So how do you make the message go away once openssl is updated? (It's driving me nuts) sudo systemctl mask apt-news.service sudo systemctl mask esm-cache.service sudo mv /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20apt-esm-hook.conf /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20apt-esm-hook.conf.disabled sudo apt install ubuntu-advantage-tools ...

Re: [SOLVED] Different Backgrounds, Desktop Icons for Different Workspaces (LM20.x, LM21.x Cinn, Mate, XFCE)
Nice scripts. I'm running them on my 21.2 install.
Anyway I can hide the background link on my new desktops? Maybe hide it as a dotfile?
Thanks.

Re: 40_custom Tail Gone - No Grub Menu
Yes. Same as mine. And those scripts, in conjunction with the GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden setting in /etc/default/grub resulted in no visible Grub menu in my case. Or it did until I added back the previous Mint version's 40_custom override. Is your /etc/default/grub different for that GRUB_TIMEOUT_ST...

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2019
Here's my "Christmas-y" fluxbox desktop. (click and then click again!) You mean 132 MB > MegaBytes... RAM for the operating system? Fascinating. Do you know a method how to use a Linux with Flux on a high resolution monitor @ 3000 x 2000? That would make for a super-fast virtual...

Re: Does this problem happen on your Cinnamon desktop??
Addendum: Just to make extra sure, I visited https://bing.wallpaper.pics/ again, in (genuine Mozilla) Firefox 70.0.1 . My desktop is still loaded. No crash so far. In particular the X11 server is still alive. Yet, I admit that this still is on Mint 19.1 xfce. So the question asked in the title, &qu...

Re: Does this problem happen on your Cinnamon desktop??
Hello, twodogs. BAM! the screen turns black and you are logged out of Cinnamon. This suggests that your graphical desktop crashed. This is why you were returned to the login screen. Frequently such a problem is caused by the graphics driver software. In order to verify you might like to provide ......

Does this problem happen on your Cinnamon desktop??

Re: Controlling the font in the Cinnamon menu and the panel
I think I have found the problem. Although you can basically define the font used for the desktop, the font used in the theme is fixed. So the topic determines the font in the menu and in the panel. That does not really fit, that one can select the fonts otherwise. I have now changed the font in th...

Re: Linux Mint logo suggestion
I think my panel is default size (height=40) That big? Well, I was thinking of something like 16 pixels (website favicon, see attached) to 24 pixels (my panel). ;) mintlogo-troken-inverse-16x16.png Nope. It's not symmetrical. Nope. It's not symmetrical. Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2019
I have been very interested in Bedrock Linux and wondered if it would actually work with Linux Mint. My dream has been realized! I love my Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon, but really like the AUR of Arch Linux. I installed Linux Mint in Virtualbox. Updated Linux Mint and rebooted. I then installed Bedrock ...

Re: A London Ad Man's Lessons for Linux on the Desktop
I think Linux Mint is actually relatively good at speaking to a wider audience. I've not seen any Linux do it better, anyway. Except there's no actual speaking outside of the monthly blog posts, that's what I meant with lack of advertising. You can see the immediate result of some publicity from al...

Re: Linux Mint logo suggestion
This looks very similar to Adam McBride's concept logo from 10 years ago but with the stems of the M widened. See forum post here https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=37294&p=214168#p214168 and the source at https://web.archive.org/web/20100929122523/http://linuxmint-art.org/co...
