Re: Dual boot on two drives - file transfer?

How do you move files? I was surprised and pleased when I found that I could move files (.doc, .jpg, .pdf, .m4a etc.), from Windows XP on one drive to Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2 on the other drive, by using cut and paste in a Cinnamon Mint file manager. I somehow thought that I would not be able to d...

Re: Script to automate website access and conference call recording

So, you do all the opening the web page and logging in and such with actiona, and only use Bash to start actiona? I had never heard of actiona before, I'll have to check it out. Yes. It's great. Does everything automatically with no user input. Easy to modify and adapt. For example, I am using Viva...

I need a registration code to open an account in forums.
Hi ladnor. Welcome to the Linux Mint Forums and Linux Mint. :-)

I'm a longtime Windows user also who got tired of it all and finally switched to Linux. I love it.

Which forums are you looking to get a registration code for?

Re: Virtual Box shared folders

Like with Samba/NFS mounts, the underlying format of a shared VirtualBox folder does not apply. A VB guest could not care less what the host's filesystems are. Interesting. Are you saying that installing Win10 in a VB allows Windows to access Linux ext4 files? I've never tried it. I just assumed Wi...

Re: New, wants to learn and help build this thing

When you get some free time I would encourage you to check the linuxcommand.org web site. It is a reasonable site for learning the command line and understanding bash. Also, the site has a free "The Linux Command Line, A Book By William Shotts" pdf book. For a free formal Linux introduction course,...

Re: Timeshift and flatpaks

In a quest to reduce the size of the system snapshots with timeshift I can reduce it quite a bit by excluding /var/lib/flatpak/. My question is when a restore is done will excluding this cause any problems? Not an expert here but I'm going to assume that if you installed any flatpak packages then t...

Re: Virtual Box shared folders

I have Vbox 5.2.32_Ubuntu r132056 on MInt 19.2 hosting Windows 10 Home. I have defined a shared folder. "/home" as "linuxhome" however it does not appear in Windows file explorer. One question that nobody asked (at least I didn't see it) is what is the format of "/home"? I'm assuming it's your actu...

Re: How to adjust system tray icon size?

I had the same issue. I don't know which version of Mint you're using but here's what I did for my Mint 19.1 Cinnamon: Right click the panel and choose Panel Settings. In the second box (labelled "Customize"), you'll see a slider to adjust the panel height and three settings for the left, center, an...

Re: 19.2 Cinnamon Red Border on Welcome Window

Sorry I can't help you but it's good to know that I'm not the only one with this problem.

I'm running 19.1 Cinnamon and the red border started appearing after I installed a new theme. However, it doesn't appear every time.

I'm very interested to see if someone has an answer here.

Re: Task scheduler/manager

What exactly do you want to do with crontab? I tried to use it to automate some tasks and was quite frustrated. My tasks were simple: Open a website, log in, open OBS Studio to automatically record a seminar for 2 hours. I created a script to do just that but couldn't get it to run automatically at ...

Re: How to run Win 10 from an external drive.

I'm far from a Linux expert but I did find this article about running Win 10 from an external HD: https://www.pcworld.com/article/3185777/how-to-install-windows-on-an-external-drive.html I'm not sure of your level of Linux experience or exactly what you want to achieve so I hope I don't insult you. ...

<SOLVED> Re: Script to automate website access and conference call recording

Well I finally got this solved. I installed Actiona and created a script to load a website, log me in, then load OBS Studio and automatically start recording (I set the Output Timer to always be used so it would stop after 2 hours). However, calling the script directly loaded Actiona and required in...

Re: Script to automate website access and conference call recording

I use KeePassXC, and it will do "autotype." I checked the man page to see if it had any functions you could call from the command line, but it doesn't mention any. However, if KeePassXC can do autotype, you should be able to download the source code and see how they do it. Which password manager do...

Re: Script to automate website access and conference call recording

It occurred to me while I was away from the computer that some browsers allow you to save your logins and passwords. That didn't occur to me immediately, because I never use anything like that. I know that it is possible to "click buttons" from a script or command, but I've never done it myself. So...

Re: Script to automate website access and conference call recording

Thanks for the info jimallyn. I appreciate your help. There are plenty of pages on line that will help you with BASH or Python. There is a good book, The Linux Command Line, that you can read online or download to your computer, available here: http://www.linuxcommand.org/tlcl.php/ Thanks, I'll take...

Re: Thunderbird and text encoding

When I see parts of my outgoing emails quoted in a reply, I see two question marks where I typed two spaces. I had typing lessons as a teenager, and was taught to put two spaces after a full-stop (a period as Americans call it). One of my regular correspondents says that my original emails look tha...
