Re: Satellite C660-2QU

I would suggest you try either Mint's MATE, KDE, or Xfce editions. Mint Cinnamon might not work very well (or at all) with your Intel graphics chip. Trying it in Live mode is always a good idea before you actually install it to the hard drive. If you see something funky during the Live mode, the for...

Synaptic Package Manager > Preferences > Files tab - set it to "Delete downloaded packages after installation" :-)

Re: Motherboard drivers

As MintBean wrote, motherboard drivers are included in the linux kernel.
You can check the Driver Manager program to see if there are any proprietary drivers available for your graphics or wireless.

Re: soon gave up on mint18.2 xfce 64bit

This was never an issue with 17.3.

And 17.3 has been polished to perfection. All of my machines are running Mint 17.x Xfce. I do not plan on ever upgrading/installing Mint 18.x . . Mint 19 will be out well before 17 reaches EOL. :-)

Re: Mint with large fonts > 20 pt for people with bad eyes

It is quite simple in the Xfce desktop. :) Right click in an open area of the screen, and from the popup menu choose Desktop Settings. There under the Icon tab you can set the size of icons and font size for the icons. (click to enlarge) https://s25.postimg.org/y5edjig0v/size.png From the Appearance...

Re: Can't move windows to different workspace

Have you added the Workspace Switcher to the panel ? If yes, then give it a right-click > Workspace Settings, how many workspaces are set ? In the Margins tab, are they set to 0 (zero) ?

You can also check the Window Manager Tweaks program's Workspace tab.

Re: can some one take a looks at my config?

Yes, it is quite hot. With your graphics hardware running the Cinnamon edition, the CPU is handling most of the load. Cinnamon requires high-end 3D capable graphics hardware, and if your graphics is not up to the task, the CPU has to take up the slack. Suggestion; Try Mint's MATE or Xfce editions . ...

Re: release file problem

In the Software Sources program, there is a PPA button on the left. Once you find the playonlinux PPA in the right window pane, click to highlight it, then at the bottom, click the Edit button . .

(I don't know why everyone is trying to make it difficult for you . . ?)

Re: release file problem

It should not be "sonya" it should be "xenial" . . you will need to edit that specific repository in the Software Sources program, replacing every instance of sonya with xenial. :-)
(please do NOT change or edit the official Mint repository for Sonya)

Both of those are great . . but the important thing is: What graphics hardware do you have? Intel, AMD, Nvidia?

Re: CD/DVD

It may be that the disk hasn't been un-mounted when you remove the disk from the drive. Are you just using the eject button on the drive? Have you tried removing/ejecting it via the File Manager instead? In the Xfce edition, when I insert a disk, I have a tiny icon beside my CD/DVD drive in the File...
