Re: My wireless is gone and I dont know how to get it back

Well , the network section of that terminal output doesn't even show any wireless hardware ? ? ?

Is it built-in wireless or is it a USB wireless dongle thingy ?

Re: LM 18.1 Xfce stuck at startup

Shot in the dark . .

Have you tried booting to a previous kernel ? Hopefully you still have a 4.4 kernel installed ?
Holding down the Shift key during boot-up will get you to the Grub menu, where you can choose a different kernel.

This terminal command will give us a look at your usb hardware, and how it is seen by Mint. Please copy/paste the complete output back here in a reply.

Re: Problems Installing Programs

VLC player is already installed in Mint.

Yes, you need an Internet connection to download the multimedia codecs , without the multimedia codecs you will not be able to play most new videos.

Once the codecs are installed, all of the Players will work as expected. :-)

Re: Website display on netbook

Couple of things to try . .
Does the " Ctrl - " shrink the page for you ? You can also change the way it is reduced in the Firefox menu > View > Zoom text only (same as shrink text only).

Re: How to create keyboard shortcut for New Text Document in Thunar

You can try the Settings Editor's xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts. Sorry I can't help any further, as I'm a mouse kinda guy (one of the main reasons I chose Xfce), and with a quick right-click, left-click, I have a new text document open. Anywhere! The desktop, on a folder, in a folder, anywhere inside Thu...

Re: verify ISO 18.1 on 17 machine?

Check your menu, you should have USB Image Writer already installed.

Oops , read wrong. Use your CD- Burning software and choose "Write Image to disk". Or you can even try right-clicking on the iso file, and choose Open with (your burning software).

Re: [18.1MATE64]-How To Test Desktop Hardware For Failures?

The desktop is 100% stable but I see frequent Mozilla Firefox tab crashes?

Me too ! I switched from Adblock-plus to uBlock Origin and my tab crashes have almost disappeared ! :)

And now that I have removed the FT DeepDark "complete theme" package, I haven't had a tab crash yet !

Re: verify ISO 18.1 on 17 machine?

Yes, it checked your downloaded Mint iso , and if those long lines of numbers match, you are now the proud owner of an un-corrupted Mint iso file, that you can feel confident in using !

Good job ! and your stick-to-it-ivness is inspiring ! :D

Re: verify ISO 18.1 on 17 machine?

One at a time . . :)

cd Downloads

then

sha256sum -b *.iso

Then compare your results with the coresponding line in the sha256sum.txt file. They should be exactly the same.

Re: new build for better video editing

I did a search on Nvidia drivers, and your video cards both take the same Nvidia 304 drivers.

I am writing this from a machine with a Nvidia 3400 Quadro FX, and the 304 drivers.

And yes, I think the Quadro is more powerful than the 7900GS. Better OpenGL. (only my opinion)

Re: verify ISO 18.1 on 17 machine?

I need to do the 'directory think'?

No, not at all ! If your iso file is in the Downloads directory, then just change the instructions, directory name "ISO" to "Downloads". Then you can skip the whole "create directory" section of the instructions.

Just use your File Manager. (Nemo?) Open it to your Home directory, and right click in the right pane, and choose Create Folder (or similarly worded).
