Re: Memory loss after every Kernel update

I personally, always keep one extra kernel that I know works well with my hardware. (and keep that kernel version also updated)
Just in case a new update corrupts the newest one, I have a fallback that I know works. :-)

Update Manager > View > Kernels
Use the Update Manager to remove un-used/un-wanted kernels. :-)

There will be a provider of 32 bit distros for as long as 32 bit machines are still out there . .

Re: Does disabling the open-source NVIDIA driver (nouveau) help in power saving

If you use this terminal command: inxi -Gx, you will see that the Intel driver is in use, and that the nouveau driver (and others) is "unloaded". Meaning it has not been loaded into the kernel.

So, no worries! Already done! :-)

You might also find one or more that would work for you from the versions of Puppy Linux here; with a desktop interface,(read the descriptions) and which still may be available.

Please post the output from this terminal command (with the optical drive connected): inxi -dxx

I'm wondering if you may just need to change the default dvd drive setting in your video player's preferences. :?

Have you tried any of the setting and speed tweaks for Cinnamon from that link in my first reply? (Section B: 1 and 4) It may help with what you already have installed . .

Re: Linux mint software rendering mode hp2133

Yes, a re-install from scratch is what I suggest. I do not know your cpu or ram, but if you have 2 Gb of ram or less, go with the 32 bit. :)

Re: Linux mint software rendering mode hp2133

Yes, IMHO, the Cinnamon desktop edition is too graphics intensive for your old graphics hardware. I suggest installing either Mint's Xfce or MATE editions, and then turning off all of the 3D graphics effects, etc. Some good recommendations on how to do that found here: https://sites.google.com/site/...

Just a note to Claws users; be careful with some of those Display>Summaries, as some of them can slow down your Claws substantially. :(

Re: Update manager not working

It reads like you have duplicate files in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ directory . . both with the same name - additional-repositories.list

Check them both first and then delete one of them. :-)

Re: CD/DVD Player not found

Another thing to check, is in the program that needs dvd/cd access. This was mentioned in the Release Notes. Check to make sure that the default optical device is set to /dev/sr0 (a number zero, not a capital O) (click to enlarge) This is the preferences of VLC on my computer. https://i.imgur.com/MD...

Re: CD/DVD Player not found

This terminal command will give you some good info on your disks and specifically your optical drive. You can then post the complete output back here in a reply.
