Re: Decision Time

Just a thought . .
If you ever plan on re-selling the laptop, it may be worth it to have a way to re-install windows so the laptop will be as originally purchased.

Use the Software Sources program to delete/disable the Getdeb repository. The Getdeb repos were taken down a few years ago.

Re: prompting for password after running updates?

Without knowing what the updates are that are causing this, it will be impossible to diagnose.

Since you rolled back, the updates are likely back in the Update Manager, can you provide a list of the updates that caused this ?

Re: grub menu dual boot system

Something to try . . When you are booted into Mint 19, run this terminal command : sudo update-grub , I'm assuming that now the Mint 19 grub loader will take over.

The ufw firewall is already installed in Mint. You want to deny.

Too bad people don't read the published Release Notes before they attempt an install. :(

Re: update manager error

If you read the error, it states that there are duplicates in official-package-repositories.list, and the sources.list that you must have added.

All Mint versions use the official-package-repositories.list.

I suggest thst you delete the sources.list file.

Re: Cinnamon 19 32 boots into fallback every time

Cinnamon requires 3D capable, newer graphics hardware. Mint's MATE or Xfce editions do not.

Yes, it would be best to download either the Mint MATE or Xfce edition, burn it to disk, and go from there. :)

Re: cannot use my spare drive

If you want one big partition on that drive, use that Disks program to delete the partitions, once complete, create a new 2 Tb partition.

Re: cannot use my spare drive

I see it here . . it's not a 1 but a 2 Tb drive by the looks of it. Drives: HDD Total Size: 2275.5GB (3.0% used) ID-1: /dev/sda model: Crucial_CT275MX3 size: 275.1GB ID-2: /dev/sdb model: HGST_HUS724020AL size: 2000.4GB Remember in Gparted, to switch drives use the drop down list in the upper right.

Re: Screen Crash at seemingly random times?

If you have browsed through the active topics in the forums, you will see that the 4.15 series linux kernel is causing quite a few members to pull out their hair in frustration. I don't know if it is the cause of your problems. I'm not on Mint 19, so I don't know what other series of kernels...

Just install mint-meta-xfce . . do NOT install the xubuntu desktop, as that will overwrite what mint-meta-xfce has already installed.

Re: Mint 19 XFCE - Regularly freezing and requiring hard reset.

It may just be the 4.15 series linux kernel that is causing this. I have read in these forums quite a few problems with it. Mint 18.3 comes with an earlier kernel, which may work better for you. I'm not on Mint 19 so I do not know which kernels are available. (Mint Update Manager > View > Linux Kern...
