Re: Newbie wifi & ethernet problem

Thanks for the link...bookmarked for the future. I probably fell into special case #1...I likely needed to blacklist ssb, as there was no Ethernet card on the laptop. The only thing is that I wish there were a way to side download drivers and thumbdrive them over to a laptop without the use of a USB...

Re: Update Manager in 19.1

Sorry to hear that. Users shouldn't update kernels willy-nilly, especially if they're not experts. By mixing browser security updates, etc., which are important to do timely, with updates that are less necessary, like kernel updates, users will be taught (especially newer ones like myself), after be...

Update Manager in 19.1

In 18.2, I had Levels 3&4 set to Visible, but not Selected. When I would update the other Level 1&2 updates, the update manager icon would disappear from the tray, without having to install the Levels 3&4 updates. This was helpful, as I would then be able to know about other new updates (Levels 1&2)...

Re: Newbie wifi & ethernet problem

Thanks for the links, JeremyB. Learned something new today. After reading those articles, I see why there are so many different conflicting solutions to broadcom wifi on the internet. Best part is that broadcom is getting to be more popular as an OEM wifi solution (must be cheap). Looks like I will...

Re: How to add applets on the left side of panel

I've run into this same problem, the sequence of events: 1. New 19.1 install, left Modern interface in Welcome app. 2. Windows started disappearing from the Grouped Windows List panel (especially second terminal windows or second Nemo windows, etc.), with no numeric indications as to any potential n...

Re: MicroSD Card Question

OK, so I added this to the last line of /etc/fstab: /dev/mmcblk1p1 /media/microsd1 ntfs auto, nofail, user 0 0 Reboot & brick. Had to redownload & recreate bootable Mint USB media, remember the "sudo xed" trick as the fstab file was locked down, and after some searching, found the nobootwait option (n...

Re: MicroSD Card Question

Sorry for the "mounting" confusion, and the bad pun. I'm not super-familiar with fstab, nor its options, however, if I were to use such an entry, would that preclude me from being able to unmount or remount (on reinsertion), preferably via Nemo, the drive during a given user session, or preclude me ...

MicroSD Card Question

I recently purchased an HP Stream 11, with 4G RAM & 32G SSD. Installed Linux Mint 18.2 (x64) on it; the install went well, repartitioning everything well, though the WiFI (Intel 7265) is weird (takes a while to "warm up" upon booting) and the touchpad is horrible, but I assume those are hardware iss...
