Re: Running xmodmap at start-up

Add the command to the end of .profile for a user-specific scope. If you want global scope, you can add a systemd service: viewtopic.php?t=275464
Unfortunately it did not work.

Re: Running xmodmap at start-up

Thanks for your help, but both the .profile and the systemd service did not work for me. [Unit] After=display-manager.service [Service] ExecStart=/home/hielke/.keys.sh [Install] WantedBy=default.target My memory might not be that good, but I thought this was a lot easier to do before my system was u...

Running xmodmap at start-up

Whenever I run xmodmap manually it works fine. However I can't get it to work automatically at start-up. I made a ~/.Xmodmap file and tried creating a ~/.xinitrc and a ~/.xprofile with the following contents #!/bin/bash [[ -f /home/hielke/.Xmodmap ]] && /usr/bin/xmodmap /home/hielke/.Xmodmap Did not...

Re: Cant boot with LMDE install HP Laptop

You probably need to reinstall grub. I think grub was installed on the HDD of Windows and since that is gone now there is no bootloader anymore. Look up boot-repair-disk to create a USB from which you can recover your linux by reinstalling grub.

[SOLVED] Reconfigure hibernate option after changing swap partition

I got a new SSD and I changed the partitions. As a consequence my swap partition got a new uuid. I could find how to configure the swap in /etc/fstab, but hibernate is still broken. I also have very slow kernel boot-up times and I think this is related to the kernel not being able to find the uuid o...

Move from Stretch to Buster

Now Buster has become Stable, I wonder if I can safely upgrade Cindy from Stretch to Buster. I found the following link: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-upgrade-debian-9-stretch-to-debian-10-buster I know a bit how stuff works under the hood, but I don't want to spend days trying to get this work. So...

Re: Broadcom Wifi: Module wl not found in directory /lib/modules/

Okay, I got it working now.

I completely reinstalled kernel + headers + broadcom module, and made sure I got everything from backports, and it works now. Maybe the reinstall helped, but maybe I just didn't got the headers from backports.

Thanks a lot.

Re: Broadcom Wifi: Module wl not found in directory /lib/modules/

apt install -t stretch-backports broadcom-sta-dkms I did that, but it said it was the newest version already. However, upon checking my sources.list I realized I forgot to include "contrib non-free" for the backports line. So I did that and I now got the newest version for broadcom-sta-dkms. Howeve...

Re: Broadcom Wifi: Module wl not found in directory /lib/modules/

from stretch-backports repo, it's better to install an updated driver package from there as well.
Well, there is a slightly newer version listed on here https://packages.debian.org/stretch-bac ... m-sta-dkms but when I try to install it with apt it says it already is the newest version.

Re: Installing Linux without an Ethernet port

If the wifi does not work upon buying it, you have to install additional drivers for that. But if you do not have an ethernet port, you can download a .deb file of the ubuntu launchpad for the drivers and install it by moving that file to your laptop with a USB drive. Off course, this is a bit more ...

[SOLVED] Broadcom Wifi: Module wl not found in directory /lib/modules/

I am running Linux Mint Debian Edition Cindy with Cinnamon Desktop. I have BCM43228 Broadcom wifi and after I updated the kernel it did not work anymore. (4.9 -> 4.19) I followed this guide (my model was listed): https://wiki.debian.org/wl But I get the error: modprobe: FATAL: Module wl not found in...

Re: Unmounting external storage freezes system

The problem comes from the kernel and is solved with a newer release. You can get the newer version from backports if you have the same issue.

I think this link is relevant:

[SOLVED] Unmounting external storage freezes system

TLDR: Whenever I unmount external storage devices (harddrive or USB) using nemo or udisksctl, my system freezes. I am running LMDE Cindy with Cinnamon and from the moment I installed the OS (few weeks ago) I cannot safely remove any external storage devices (harddrive and USB). If I do this my syste...

Re: LM 18.3 on HP Elite x2: Touchpad slow and inconsistent

He, So, what you can try is to 'reinitiate' mouse and see what happens sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse It might be you need something else as psmouse, but this most likely the right one, just see if the mouse is disabled after the first command. If the mouse still isn't what you want ...

Mouse not as it used to be after system update

So I updated my system, but after the reboot, my mouse is not anymore as it used to be. It's sensitivity is much lower (although my preferences are still to have it at maximum) and also the smooth scrolling is gone. I could change my sensitivity from the terminal, but I have not yet found a work aro...

Re: Mouse and Touchpad Sensitivity settings not working

I got the same issue after updating my system. I wonder where it comes from.

Anyway you can set your mouse speed from the terminal

Code: Select all

xset m 3 1
Unfortunately I have no solution yet to get my smooth scrolling back.
