Re: Will Linux Mint eventually support Arm?

This is an interesting discussion to me for the following reasons: a) The planned (supposedly within this quarter) release of the Librem 5 phone, which uses the i.MX8M/Cortex A53, 64bit ARM. b) The Librem 5 is (again, supposedly) easily able to connect to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. c) The Libre...

Re: Problem Changing CDs

Thanks for the thought ... All of the methods of ejecting I used (and know of) unmount the CD medium prior to doing the actual ejection. If the app hasn't yet finished reading from the CD, a message pops up saying it's busy; on the other hand a message also pops up confirming that it's ok to remove ...

Problem Changing CDs

Quite some time ago, I used to play audio CDs on my computer while working on other things; when one completed, I would eject it, insert another, and continue playing. I recently attempted to do that again after a number of years and discovered that, once I ejected a CD, I could no longer read anoth...

Re: CUPS Printer Test Page Update

How interesting!! Thanks very much for the reply.

I guess I never experienced the issue discussed there (my printer is an HP OfficeJet 6700), so wasn't aware that folks had difficulties.

CUPS Printer Test Page Update

Mostly curiosity, but ... I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon version 4.0.10 with kernel 4.15.0-48-generic, which I keep updated. This morning I received an update to "fix" the CUPS Printer Test Page that is located at /usr/share/cups/data/default-testpage.pdf. As near as I can determine, the only ...

Re: iBus Intelligent Pinyin facility

I have not. My understanding, however, is that SunPinYin only supports simplified characters. That is actually my main interest at the moment since I'm looking at "official" Mandarin, but I'd also like to be able to support the traditional characters for non-Communist locales. If I get a chance, tho...

Thanks much. Now that you mention this, I seem to recall knowing that at one time or another in the past.

Re: LO Writer doesn't return to last position in file

Thanks for the response. I guess I must have been thinking of some other word processor; although I've used LibreOffice since it first forked from OpenOffice, I don't use it frequently enough to be sure.

iBus Intelligent Pinyin facility

I'm using Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon 4.0.10 with Kernel 4.15.0-46-generic, and ibus-libpinyin 1.9.2-2 for Chinese input. Does anyone know if there is a way to either: 1) change the size of the options that appear when entering text? At my age it's difficult enough to distinguish between English letter...

LO Writer doesn't return to last position in file

I'm using Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon 4.0.10 with Kernel 4.15.0-46-generic, and LibreOffice Version: 6.0.7.3, Build ID: 1:6.0.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.2. When I (re)open a file in any application except for LibreOffice, the cursor is positioned where I last left it. I've wandered through LO's "Tools|Options" s...

Re: Ghostscript Update 20 FEB 2019 !!! ISSUE

FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED:

See the bug report and associated responses at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1817308

Apparently, this has been fixed upstream, and it just remains for it to make its way to the Mint update process.

Ghostscript Update 20 FEB 2019 !!! ISSUE

Hi: I don't know where to report this issue, but after applying this update on 2 different computers, my networked HP OfficeJet 6700 Printer now prints a blue background on every page, even otherwise blank second sides. Since I abandoned Windows many years ago for - among other things - what was kno...

Nemo dies on right click

Hi: I'm running Mint 19 with Cinnamon 3.8.9. Every so often, when nemo is running and I right click on the side panel to choose "open in new window" or "open in new tab" nemo just disappears. For a bit, I just assumed I was missing the sweet spot, but now I'm convinced there is something amiss... Ha...

SOLVED: Mint 19: Nemo thinks my hard drives are removable

Wow!! Sanity restored... I doubt if I would ever have found that. I began using the bind lines somewhere in the dim dark past because I couldn't use the existing "standard" directories as mount points due to some bug; since I was already doing binds for other partitions, it actually made the fstab l...

Mint 19: Nemo thinks my hard drives are removable

I just did a new installation of Mint 19/Cinnamon and am running into something I've not encountered before. Since the days of Windows 95, I've had multiple partitions on multiple hard drives in order to facilitate OS upgrades, backups, seccurity, etc. etc. and have never had an issue doing that. On...

Re: Panel Editing Disabled??

Thanks again for your time and suggestions. Here's a step-by-step answer ... File ownership issues don't seem to be a problem. (I assume you meant Ctrl+Alt+Esc rather Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart Cinnamon) ... I already had another user account on this machine, but hadn't thought to try that, so I log...

Re: Panel Editing Disabled??

UPDATE: Now I'm getting quite annoyed... I moved the panel to the bottom of the screen with: gsettings set org.cinnamon panels-enabled "['1:0:bottom']" Right-clicking on the panel works just as would be expected! Then I moved the panel back to the top with: gsettings set org.cinnamon panels-enabled ...

Re: Panel Editing Disabled??

Thanks for the response, but the words "**should** reset things" concern me a bit. Is there a more specific schema or path there I could look at? Resetting what looks to be over 900 values (based on an estimate from "gsettings list-recursively | grep org.cinnamon"), an unknown number of which may ha...

Panel Editing Disabled??

I'm using 64 bit Mint 18.3/Cinnamon 3.6.7 with Kernel 4.15.0-36-generic and a Logitech m510 wireless mouse. I imagine that somewhere in Mint/Cinnamon there is a setting to prevent a user from editing the Panel configuration. I also imagine that I must have recently (and certainly inadvertently) acti...
