SOLVED: Mint 19: Nemo thinks my hard drives are removable

Wow!! Sanity restored... I doubt if I would ever have found that. I began using the bind lines somewhere in the dim dark past because I couldn't use the existing "standard" directories as mount points due to some bug; since I was already doing binds for other partitions, it actually made the fstab l...

Mint 19: Nemo thinks my hard drives are removable

I just did a new installation of Mint 19/Cinnamon and am running into something I've not encountered before. Since the days of Windows 95, I've had multiple partitions on multiple hard drives in order to facilitate OS upgrades, backups, seccurity, etc. etc. and have never had an issue doing that. On...

Re: Panel Editing Disabled??

Thanks again for your time and suggestions. Here's a step-by-step answer ... File ownership issues don't seem to be a problem. (I assume you meant Ctrl+Alt+Esc rather Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart Cinnamon) ... I already had another user account on this machine, but hadn't thought to try that, so I log...

Re: Panel Editing Disabled??

UPDATE: Now I'm getting quite annoyed... I moved the panel to the bottom of the screen with: gsettings set org.cinnamon panels-enabled "['1:0:bottom']" Right-clicking on the panel works just as would be expected! Then I moved the panel back to the top with: gsettings set org.cinnamon panels-enabled ...

Re: Panel Editing Disabled??

Hi Smurfos: Thanks for the reply. Here are the outputs $ gsettings get org.cinnamon enabled-applets ['panel1:right:8:systray@cinnamon.org:0', 'panel1:left:0:menu@cinnamon.org:1', 'panel1:left:2:panel-launchers@cinnamon.org:3', 'panel1:left:6:window-list@cinnamon.org:4', 'panel1:right:9:notifications...

Re: Panel Editing Disabled??

Thanks for the response, but the words "**should** reset things" concern me a bit. Is there a more specific schema or path there I could look at? Resetting what looks to be over 900 values (based on an estimate from "gsettings list-recursively | grep org.cinnamon"), an unknown number of which may ha...

Panel Editing Disabled??

I'm using 64 bit Mint 18.3/Cinnamon 3.6.7 with Kernel 4.15.0-36-generic and a Logitech m510 wireless mouse. I imagine that somewhere in Mint/Cinnamon there is a setting to prevent a user from editing the Panel configuration. I also imagine that I must have recently (and certainly inadvertently) acti...

Re: Install Korean/Hangul

I was about to ask about Korean text when I saw your entry. I suspect that your problem may simply be that Mint/Cinnamon's Korean support is broken. The following is what I had planned to post, and should explain why I say that: I am using Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit, with Cinnamon version 3.6.7...

Keyboard Selector on Panel

Does anyone know if the Keyboard Selector on the Panel has been fixed in the new Mint 19/Cinnamon so that a user can select from more than four keyboard layout/script choices? This bug (I believe it is actually a Cinnamon bug) has been around for a few versions now and, since it is the only thing I ...

Keyboard Panel Applet: Direct Choice

Hi: This question refers to 64 bit Linux Mint 18.3/Cinnamon ... I have a hot key set up to iterate through the keyboard choices in the Keyboard Panel Applet, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to directly choose one of the keyboards, e.g. with some command or other, rather than scrolling t...

Re: IBus Hindi inscript Devanagari layout [SOLVED]

You are welcome.

Hopefully, this thread (including your ultimate solution) will help others who have difficulty entering alternate scripts. It's a shame that these things are so poorly documented in 2018.

Re: Menu Icons in Mint 18.3/Cinnamon

Wow! Thanks for pointing me to that. I guess I have a lot of reading for today. My initial impression is that all of your comments on this subject could be the basis for a tutorial with a bit of editing, but hopefully I can learn a bit more about Cinnamon while going through it all. Like you, I'd ra...

Re: Different backgrounds for different workspaces

Thanks much for the response. Since Cinnamon doesn't support different background screens for different workspaces, are there any other methods people use to indicate which workspace they are on at any given time? The panel applet (at least on my machine, which I haven't changed from the default) sh...

Menu Icons in Mint 18.3/Cinnamon

Hi: I've noticed when editing the menus that it is quite easy to set an icon for any menu entry, but setting an icon for a category (e.g. Accessories, Internet, etc.) is much more finicky. Some icons that can be successfully used for an app are not recognized for a category. Are there different requ...

Different backgrounds for different workspaces

Using Mint 18.3 with Cinnamon Desktop... I used to use Compiz on another distro to set different backgrounds for each workspace, but am getting the idea from these forums that Compiz is not recommended for Mint/Cinnamon. a) Is that last generally tru and, if so, why? b) Is there some facility within...

Re: GParted telephone icon meaning?

Re: Gnome? what does Gnome have to do with it? The initial "g" stands for gnome - gparted is gnome's reworking of the earlier part(ition) ed(itor). gparted is a gnome project. When I said I found it in a number of places, I should have mentioned that those locations I was referring to were "themes."...

Re: GParted telephone icon meaning?

All frivolities and kidding aside, it seems like most respondents so far have figured out that the icon represents that the partition is mounted. But the OP's question included a comment saying that he could not find a reference for the meaning of the various icons. If anyone knows of such a referen...

Re: GParted telephone icon meaning?

FWIW: I think I located the actual icon in a number of places, for example the file stock_keyring.svg in the directory usr/share/icons/Mint-X/apps/96. There are also many links to that base file, such as badge-small.svg, seahorse.svg, etc. At the size it's displayed in gparted though, it isn't helpf...

Re: GParted telephone icon meaning?

I had also noted this icon very recently, but was unable to find any reference to its meaning and just assumed that it was meant to replace the keys used as an icon in earlier versions. I guess it could be a telephone - I thought it was an ATM machine. Intuitive! I'm assuming that sdibaja's response...
