I was taking images from pdf file to edit in gimp. I had Gimp, image viewer, Okular, and gimageReader open.

As for gzip, never used the terminal very often, I use copy and paste when I do due to a form of dyslexia.
I've often confused the Terminal and given it a headache.

Ive just done a clean install of 21.2 from a USB, and my second drive in now right protected. The Hard Disk app assessment says the disk is OK, and it worked fine before. Just an update, the boot failed to load for around an hour, switched off, tried to open the bias and do a fresh install without success.
The next day boot loaded without issue.
Still showing the USB fault.

Sorry, I misunderstood you about the start-up line.

Out of the scope of this issue:
I'm showing my ignorance here, since I've done a complete new install, maybe it's a poor connection somewhere that may only be found when it completely fails.

OK thanks, today it booted in seconds rather than minutes.
I don't know if this would help, but you wish to compare; May as you say, it's a case of trial and error or simply accepting it.

The longest boot time so far is a couple around the ten minute mark, did the journal code you gave, this the result given:
Not sure if it's what you need.
Waiting to see if there's any longer boot times than ten minutes.
