Re: Mint 21.2 crashes and goes into fall-back mode

Yes, no problems with current session, I've avoided using three reader at once, and it hasn't fell back into fall-back for a couple of days. Maybe it's compatibility issue with the readers, or an update fixed the issue. Here's an earlier file, where the 'Window manager warning: WM_TRANSIENT' starts ...

Re: Mint 21.2 crashes and goes into fall-back mode

I followed, or tried to follow your instructions, but had problems with the terminal not selecting all the off the text. So I've selected the text by hand and pasted it into a Libra file. The attachment app doesn't see the Text Editor files. Sorry about that, I should have used Libra before rather t...

Re: Mint 21.2 crashes and goes into fall-back mode

I was taking images from pdf file to edit in gimp. I had Gimp, image viewer, Okular, and gimageReader open.

As for gzip, never used the terminal very often, I use copy and paste when I do due to a form of dyslexia.
I've often confused the Terminal and given it a headache. :-)
I'll see how I get on.

Re: Mint 21.2 crashes and goes into fall-back mode

It hasn't crashed in the last couple of day, and it crashed after been on for several hours. Is there any way I can make the full file available to you? Here's the bottom section from the old data file, this line is repeated for over a hundred lines. Window manager warning: WM_TRANSIENT_FOR window 0...

Re: Mint 21.2 crashes and goes into fall-back mode

thanks smg, I’ve looked at .xsession-errors & .xsession-errors.old, and there are errors mentioned, the file are to large to paste here so I’ve saved them at plain text. Unfortunately I can't see hoe to add a large text file like the .xsession-errors to the post. Here’s an image that shows muffi...

Re: Mint 21.2 crashes and goes into fall-back mode

Thanks, I was using Gimp, Okular, and Image View when it crashed, Gimp was installed from the software manager and seems to have a few issues. I tried the typing in 'muffin' into the terminal and received the answer below. System-Product-Name:~$ muffin Window manager warning: Display “:0” already ha...

Re: Mint 21.2 crashes and goes into fall-back mode

Thanks for your reply Karl, believe me when I say it wasn't intentional. I was wondering if Gimp was the problem. So Karl would this work? First remove metacity with; sudo apt remove metacity sudo apt autoclean && sudo apt autoremove then install muffin with; sudo apt update sudo apt -y inst...

Re: second hard drive right protected (Solved)

Thanks to all, problem solved. Removed the drive and connected it to a Windows laptop using a Fideco docking station. Switched the docking station on, then started the laptop. Opened the hard-drive properties and de-selected the right protection, applied changes and closed the properties. I then saf...

Re: second hard drive right protected

Thanks to both of you. The last thing I thought about was Windows fast start biting me on the proverbial. Just a word of warning to others who may also fall victim to this problem. I believe this many have caused the problem. I used Rufus and didn't pay attention to the drive format and didn't use '...

Re: second hard drive right protected

Thanks Pepermint, I did look for right protection problems, but couldn't find anything that fits this particular issue. Most of the posts seemed to be about fast boot issues while running a duel boot, I couldn't see the connection. I did close (or so I thought) windows correctly via the power/shut-d...

second hard drive right protected

Ive just done a clean install of 21.2 from a USB, and my second drive in now right protected. The Hard Disk app assessment says the disk is OK, and it worked fine before. Also using when using ‘Disks’ to check the drive, the drive image shows the partition to be horizontal, rather than vertical. htt...

Re: Erratic boot times

Just an update, the boot failed to load for around an hour, switched off, tried to open the bias and do a fresh install without success.
The next day boot loaded without issue.
Still showing the USB fault.

Re: Erratic boot times

Sorry, I misunderstood you about the start-up line.

Out of the scope of this issue:
I'm showing my ignorance here, since I've done a complete new install, maybe it's a poor connection somewhere that may only be found when it completely fails.
Thank you.

Re: Erratic boot times

OK thanks, today it booted in seconds rather than minutes.
I don't know if this would help, but you wish to compare;

Code: Select all

https://termbin.com/ec9f
May as you say, it's a case of trial and error or simply accepting it.
Again many thanks for your patience.

Re: Erratic boot times

The longest boot time so far is a couple around the ten minute mark, did the journal code you gave, this the result given:

Code: Select all

https://termbin.com/ftloz
Not sure if it's what you need.
Waiting to see if there's any longer boot times than ten minutes.
Thanks again.
