Is there a disc available for downloading 19.2 mint xfce?
I believe the disc wipes the hard drive clean as part of the loading function.

Thanks for your help Karl. I think I resolved my issue. I found a mirror that downloaded a new Google repository to my update manager which I was able to install. Problem solved. The USB stick was not seating correctly in it's socket. Once I re-inserted the stick the pointer became operational - computer seems to be ok now.
My next challenge will be to choose and install a VPN.
