To run Windoze software in Linux, you need to install Wine-stable in the Software Manager.

Re: What Book can I get to learn the basics of linux/mint?

I have been monkeying-around with Linux since 1990, started in dbase way back then...............way before Winblows 3.1. What I did, is I had 2 PCs (1 desktop and 1 laptop) and I used the desktop as a training machine. I crashed it, repaired it, and used it just for that purpose; to be able to fix ...

Re: Recommend a sub $80 all in one mostly for scanning?

I have a Canon Pixma MX340 AIO (about 8 years old) and it works great on LM 19 x64. Drivers are now included in LM 19.

Re: is MATE lighter than Cinnamon?

I have 2 10+ year old laptops running LM Mate 19 64-bit and it's great. 4GB RAM.
Had LM Cinnamon 18.3 on them, but Mate is quicker and I don't miss anything in Cinnamon, which is running on 4 other newer laptops.

Re: Installing LibreOffice problem

LibreOffice? No way. I immediately purge LibreOffice and install SoftMaker FreeOffice instead. To remove prior installations of LibreOffice: sudo apt-get remove libreoffice-core If you also want to remove LibO configuration files, use the purge switch: sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice-core su...

Re: Damaged my other Linux OS using Mint installer

I always boot from a Live LM USB for fresh installations. Then I immediately use Gparted to partition the disk with /swap / /boot /home
/Data partitions.
Then when you install, adjust anything on the disk using the LM installer using "Something else".
Don't know if this helps you, but good luck.

Re: Mate 18.3 Freezes During Copying Files

Instead of restarting or shutting down, try restarting Xorg.
Ctrl+Alt (Hold down both), then press Backspace.

I was using kernel 4.18.0.13 with some freezing, then I reverted back to kernel 4.15.0.32 and it's much better now on LM v.19 Mate 64-bit.

Re: How do I remove LibreOffice from Mint 19? (completely)

I remove LibreOffice on all new installs (basically the same as HaveaMint's instructions), then install SoftMaker FreeOffice, which is much better. No problems on any apps after uninstalling LibreOffice. 4 of my laptops have the SoftMaker FreeOffice version and 2 others have the retail SoftMaker Ope...
