Re: Link Mint will not recognize my TP-Link AC600

You will probably have to compile the drivers with your current kernel. Every time I upgrade the kernel, I have to re-compile Realtek drivers for one of my laptops using a USB wifi adapter.

Re: No Wifi Signals Being Detected...Help!

Go to Menu/Administration/Driver Manager. OR 1. Run in Terminal: sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source && sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer 2. Reboot. This removes the Broadcom bcmwl-kernel-source drivers (Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver source v.6.30.223.271+bdcm-0ubuntu4) & in...

Re: No Wifi Signals Being Detected...Help!

I would install the Broadcom b43 (Legacy) driver, as the Broadcom STA driver does not work for me on the same wifi card you have.

Re: Calc has stopped me migrating from Windows to Linux Mint

That's exactly why I use SoftMaker FreeOffice 2018 for Linux on most of my rigs, and the retail version on 2 others. Works great. And, it's FREE, as in free beer. Also, I don't use or recommend M$haft products, period. Even though I have 2 laptops in the house with Win7 Pro 64-bit. After all, a leop...

Re: Adding a 2nd internal SSD

I'd definitely put the OS on the new SSD. You can make links on the Data drive (/mnt/Data or whatever) for Documents, Music, Videos, Downloads, etc., which will link to those in the File Manager that now exist, but i did not include those instructions. Pesonally, I don't care for that extra ?#@(, be...

Re: Multiple Problems on Old Laptop [Mint 18 XFCE][SOLVED]

Every 5 years I split open my 7 laptops and remove the thermal paste and replace it with ArcticSilver Ceramic Thermal Paste. I have an Asus Pro X450CA laptop and I had to totally take it apart to get to the CMOS/RTC battery. Never again. So, I found where the battery was positioned on the bottom of ...

Re: <SOLVED> Gufw Firewall Stopped Working LM19

gm10, Thanks again. I did autoremove & --purge ufw & gufw before reinstalling both, but reinstalled python3-gi, because uninstalling it and reinstalling would have taken over 30 apps out, etc.

Re: Adding a 2nd internal SSD

Congrats! I did the same thing on one of my laptops. You can use it as a data drive by editing fstab. In this tutorial, the new SSD is named "Data". Change the name to whatever. 1. Use GParted from a live Mint DVD/USB to setup the new SSD. Then format the SSD according to your needs -- eg. Ext4 if u...

VLC rules. Been using it for 10+ years. I was going to suggest that, and am glad it's working now.
I was going to suggest also to turn wifi power management off.

Re: Quit button login screen not working

If all else fails, I would do a clean install 'cause sometimes things go south-east. Have you checked into the BIOS settings for anything unusual? I had one laptop doing weird stuff like that, so I replaced the 1T HDD with a new 1TB HDD, did a clean install, and presto! Back in the saddle again. I u...

Re: No Intel Graphics Driver with Mint 19

I have 2 3 and 5 year old Intel i5 and i7 laptops with LM19 Cinnamon 64-bit and Intel GPUs, which work fine doing a clean install.
Both of those PCs are using the "modesetting" driver and all is well.

Re: Wireless Setup For XFCE

In Driver Manager, you get driver options. I chose the Broadcom b43 driver, works for me. Broadcom STA does not.
To connect to wifi, do it in the taskbar.

Re: Wireless Setup For XFCE

I have a dell inspiron 1501 with the Broadcom DW-1390 BRCM94311MCG wifi card. First, I would plug in the LAN (Ethernet) cable and get online. Second, I would open Driver Manager and choose the 2nd Broadcom driver listed (b43), not the STA driver. Install the b43 driver, unplug the LAN cable, reboot,...

Reinstalled per your suggestion. Still does not load. Same error message.
So, I uninstalled ufw and gufw.
Installed firewalld.
All is well.
Thanks for your help.

<SOLVED> Gufw Firewall Stopped Working LM19

Gufw firewall stopped working in LM19 4.15.0.30 kernel. When I click the Firewall icon on the Menu/Preferences, I enter password, then nothing. If I enter the Terminal and type: $ gufw Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/gufw/gufw/gufw.py", line 21, in <module> from gufw.view.gufw im...
