Re: Win10 is an abomination

I'm cheap and the machines I generally use for Linux (Linux Mint XFCE & Peppermint) are those I've acquired cheaply Me to. My Linux computers are discarded computers from Windows users or curb finds. I upgrade them to the maximum possible using free parts from my spare parts box. Old computer...

Re: Ubuntu Cinnamon?

I'll just stay with good old Ubuntu 18.04 LTS because unlike some users I like Gnome and have no complaints with it. Linux Mint Cinnamon and Linux Mint Xfce and LMDE 3 are OK Linux Distros however I just like and prefer Ubuntu 18.04 LTS over Linux Mint. The only Linux Mint version I use is LMDE 3. L...

Re: RING Security Doorbell

If you want video security get a system that's closed circuit and does not connect to the internet. Absolutely. My security system and surveillance cameras are hardwired although a bit more effort involved in the original installation of the system however I have no worries about anyone hacking int...

Re: That's it, I'm done. Need advice.

I'd suggest the Dell Optiplex series desktops. I've got several Dell Optiplex 380 series from 2010 core 2 duo e7500 processors and 4.0 GB DDR3 ram and Intel integrated graphics adapters and mechanical hard drives. These desktops are still running strong and were built to last and work well with any ...

Re: Chili dogs-comfort food for the soul

I love hot dogs and always cook them on the charcoal grill.

A hot dog with mustard / chili / onions wrapped up in a piece of rye bread is the best imo. :D

Re: Monitor repair questions

As for computers, the worst thing was getting rid of punched cards for programming. What do you write your shopping list on now? Use Quick Memo on your smartphone for your shopping list. And "Ooopps", the battery has gone flat - again..... And whose fault is it that the battery went flat again. Pay...

Re: Did you expect that you'll use Linux?!

I downloaded Debian Wheezy and installed and updated it and then jumped in and started seeing what Linux was about and after the first couple of days playing around with it found it to work very well. :)

Replacing capacitors isn't a hard thing to do although soldering skills and patience is a must.
Getting the polarity right is also accentual. The original ones and the replacements should be well marked.
If you don't get the polarity right you will know quickly.

When I used to smoke cigarettes many years back I tried Camel brand cigarettes and I believe those are rolled from Turkish tobacco, horrible tasting so I can only imagine that Turkish coffee is horrible tasting also. Now days all cigarettes are horrible tasting and can't imagine why I found enjoymen...

FWIW.

I find decent monitors in thrift stores all of the time that are in excellent working condition that someone donated because they wanted a larger monitor or bought a new computer.

Re: Windows 10 new install - Are all versions of Windows 10 so intrusive?

Not actually sure what the term "Microsoft fanboy crap" means (fanboy) as we are definitely not fans of Microsoft so the statement seems contradictory. A "fan of" - meaning supporting and in favour of. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Microsoft%20Fanboy So going to the link and "Micr...
