Re: Curiosity: why do so many people only use Linux on old hardware?

I like old computers and some were built to last and some of mine are from 2007 circa. Why buy something new when I already have computers that will run Linux without problems. I can afford to buy a newfangled super computer however some of the fun of using Linux keeping your old computers useful. T...

12v DC Power Input Outside in the garden where are you going to get the power from? That is why I went for POE cameras. POE = power over ethernet so you only need to run an ethernet cable to the camera. I went with these cameras: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07HGR1HM3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search...

Re: What was your Linux noob experience like?

My first Linux experience was Debian 7.x Wheezy and I was confused however I figured out how to correctly install it and update it. Once I passed the install and update hurdle I began opening things up and started out on my Linux adventure and it was and adventure. After a few days I felt a little m...

Re: what does linux mean to you in your life

The beauty of Linux is that it just plain works, all the time, unless you do something to mess it up. If this is really true then why are there so many different Linux forums with Linux users seeking solutions for the problems they're having with Linux. I'll agree that Linux works almost all of the...

Adobe Flash is Dead and I say good riddance it's one of the first things I remove as I haven't had to use it in years.

There's stuff about Linux you just have to look for it under Geek.

They're in the business to make money and apparently Linux / FOSS / opensource ain't where the money is.

Re: Anyone else fickle about rolling releases?

PCLinuxOS is a rock solid stable rolling release I've been using for over a year and have had zero problems.

It does come with a minor learning curve however easily mastered.

I'm 78 and I think more on what we used to do more often than before this past year. I guess being encapsulated in my home had a lot to do with that, the Kindle eReader of today, would not show up in our lives for another 60 years from what you will see here. https://youtu.be/CRL5833jXjo I'm 68 and...

Thats probably the best way tom to do it. I think some people might still use that method today. :o
I see gas stations using a long wooden stick with graduations on it to check the fuel tank levels so it's a reliable method of keeping track of the amount in the tank.

Re: HVAC or Plumbers please answer.

Back in the olden days as a child in New York we had an old oil heater and the only gauge we had was a wooden stick and we used to stick that stick inside the oil tank to check the oil level.

Ahh the good old days of childhood.

Re: Microsoft is the future for Linux and Mint

I'm a trader because I kind of like 'Edge' browser  That doesn't make you a trader. At least you have the gonads to admit that you like something Microsoft created. Unlike most users on most Linux forums I have nothing against Microsoft and don't hate Windows 10. Privacy no longer exists anyw...
