[Solved]Update manager showing level 4 updates when not ticked

It's showing the packages linux-firmware, linux-libc-dev, and xorg-server. What does this mean?

Re: Does hdparm work on usb drives?

So what exactly does the first command (and by that I mean second out of three) do, other than write the disk with zeros?

[Solved]18.3 upgrade troubles

I just installed 18.1 encrypted. I then updated all the programs up to level three, and then upgraded to 18.3. I did this because the 18.3 live usb is very buggy on my laptop. Before it finished upgrading, it said some things failed to upgrade. Is that a problem? I restarted, and cinnamon crashed. I...

[SOLVED]Does hdparm work on usb drives?

Does this work on usb drives?

Code: Select all

sudo hdparm --security-set-pass password /dev/sdz
sudo hdparm --security-erase password /dev/sdz
I'm not sure if it's for all drives or just hard drives.

[SOLVED]Does anyone know a good equalizer in the repository?

The only one I know is the pulseaudio equalizer, and I don't want to use a PPA. Anyone know any good alternatives?

Re: Really long hard drive overwrite, safe or dangerous for it?

Sorry. For some reason I wasn't sure what you were talking about. I must've been really tired when I read it the first time. I got an error doing the first command on the firmware level zeroing. mint@mint ~ $ sudo hdparm --security-set-pass password /dev/sda security_password: "password" /dev/...

Re: Really long hard drive overwrite, safe or dangerous for it?

I was talking about

Code: Select all

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdz bs=64M
because you suggested it.
