Re: Can't keep write access to a share if I change netbios name
Looks like this was some kind of a bug. After I created an additional share with the following parameters, everything started working as it should, even with a custom NetBIOS Name. [Shared2] path = /home/dr0/Shared read only = no writeable = yes browseable = yes valid users = dr0 guest read list = d...

Re: How to determine what prevents the system from sleeping?
I still haven't figured out the reason that causes this issue. But, while trying to prevent this computer from sleeping, while sharing files with Samba , I managed to also make it to automatically reset the sleep timer each time I use WoL with it. Since this computer either gets waken up by user int...

[SOLVED] Can't keep write access to a share if I change netbios name
I want to give one of my network computers a short and easy to type-in name, something like "NAS". I tried to do it by adding netbios name = NAS to the [global] section of smb.conf file. The PC's network name gets changed, as expected. But with this new name, I have only read access to sha...

Re: PC suspends while sharing files with Samba
I know that this topic is rather old, but I just wanted to thank you sinisab89 for this detailed guide. With some minor modifications, it has worked perfectly for me. PS: my keyboard has a physical WakeUp button, so, with the help of sudo xev I learned that my system registers this button as "X...

Re: Keyboard and mouse stop working after suspend if I enable waking up by input devices
Thanks for the reply, mikeflan. I ended up creating this simple script... #!/bin/bash echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/3-1/power/wakeup echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/3-2/power/wakeup echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/wakeup echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb2/power/wakeup ...

Re: How to determine what prevents the system from sleeping?
Thanks for your promp and helpful reply, SMG. Yes, you are rigt, this system is outdated. I choose not to update it for the time being since I don't want to do a clean install and reconfigure everything that I need from scratch. I could have used a lot newer kernel version, but 4.10 has proven to be...

How to determine what prevents the system from sleeping?

Re: Slower than expected transfer speed over LAN
I for one am trying to figure out how that didn't result in: Could not display "smb://192.168.1.3 Nemo cannot handle "smb" locations You know ... because you used sudo to invoke gvfs. If this a new feature in Mint? To be honest, I have no idea. It just works. :) Correction: this was ...

Re: Slower than expected transfer speed over LAN
I'd first of all take Nemo and its underlying gvfs out of the equation. With mount cifs I get almost the same speed. It's a bit less stable though. It spikes up to 60 MB/s but occasionally dips to less than 10 MB/s for short periods of time. In that manner, I 'm pretty sure it depends on your HDD/S...

[SOLVED] Slower than expected transfer speed over LAN
I have two desktop computers on my network. One computer runs Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit and the other one runs Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 32bit. Both computers have Gigabit network adapters and they both are connected to a Gigabit router via Cat 5e cables. When I try to test the connection between ...

Re: Firefox 69+70 32-bit crashes sporadically, Firefox 64-bit does not so far
Another LM 18.3 32-bit user here. I also get random Firefox crashes. Most often it happens when I open a new tab. It started with version 69 and continues with 70.
Installing Firefox ESR and importing the user profile from regular Firefox installation fixed the issue for me.

Unfortunately, that plays badly with Cyrillic letters. All those folder names in /home directory are in Cyrillic. mommy@HP-Compaq-6000-Pro-SFF ~ $ cd /home/mommy/Завантаження bash: cd: /home/mommy/Завантаження: No such file or directory mommy@HP-Compaq-6000-Pro-SFF ~ $ cd /home/mommy/Downloads bash:...

Re: Can't run AppImage programs
I tried to do a chmod +x and chmod a+x , but nothing was happening. Not a single new line of text was showing up in terminal. After some further research, I also tried to reinstall fuse, but that also didn't fix the problem. I'll post inxi -Fxzd and /ect/fstab output from this system down below. May...

Re: Can't run AppImage programs
Did you just double-click that AppImage file (this is how you start this kind of file, usually)? The code I posted above is from starting the AppImage via terminal. When I try to double-click it nothing happens. Did you make it executable? Yes, I did. But I did it via GUI (Properties -> Permissions...

Can't run AppImage programs
Hello. I have difficulties running AppImages on one of my family's systems that works under Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 32-bit. At first, I thought that this might have to do with the fact that it's a 32-bit system with quite a dated kernel (4.10 branch, newer versions cause instability, for some reaso...

Re: 18.3 Cinnamon 64bit nemo moves icons bug
For me, upon desktop refresh (pressing F5) Home and Trash icons are moving while being aligned to a grid but not arranged automatically. This happens only with small sized icons and only when they are arranged vertically. If I arrange small icons horizontally and place them in the very top row they ...

Desktop shortcuts disappear when you click "follow link"
Hello. I stumbled upon this weird glitch in Mint 18.2 Cinnamon. Basically, if I make a desktop shortcut to a file on my HDD, and click "Follow link to original file" it just crashes all desktop shortcuts, and to be honest, I don't know how to bring them back after this, other than restart ...
