Re: i5 laptop is a snail even with XFCE

Well, everything solved by replacing the HDD with an SDD.
The difference is really huge.
Thank you!

Re: I messed my BIOS settings and LM 20 sometimes lists errors and won't start

So, the things are like this: - without my video card inside my motherboard but with my 60 GB SSD I installed LM 19.3 successfully, no white lines and no errors (I did not create the Home on the 1 TB IDE HDD) - after unplugging the cables from the LM 19.3 SSD I connect the other SSD (250 GB) and I i...

Re: I messed my BIOS settings and LM 20 sometimes lists errors and won't start

Those ACPI "errors" really aren't errors. I've always seen them regardless of what machine I use. They are from the operating system looking for a power management system in the machine's bios. I think you are kinda right, because I read somewhere that those lines appear to several machin...

Re: I messed my BIOS settings and LM 20 sometimes lists errors and won't start

I took everything out and followed my motherboard step by step instructions: - took again all cables and put them in their place (I have not placed them wrong the other time) - even took the battery out for a minute, then I start to connect things: - without my Saphire video card, my PC beeped and b...

Re: I messed my BIOS settings and LM 20 sometimes lists errors and won't start

Reset BIOS to factory defaults if need be. However, the one thing I would definitely change is SATA mode back to AHCI from IDE. I do not know how to reset BIOS to factory defaults. The only thing I see is the „Load optimized settings” but I did that after LM 20 wouldn't start. After `Load optimized...

(SOLVED) BIOS settings messed up and LM 20 lists errors and won't start

I was using LM 20 Cinammon without any problem since spring. Two weeks ago after applying a Wine staging update, my Windows software installed under Wine stopped working. Timeshift did not helped me at all, no matter what snapshot I tried (even the first snapshot after just installed Linux Mint 20 C...

(SOLVED) i5 laptop is a snail even with XFCE

Hello! I received a laptop and it is really slow even with XFCE. I thought about changing the hard drive with a SSD one. Someone recommended me a M2 SSD, but it got me confused because I do not know how to check if my laptop's specs are compatible with an M2 SSD. Here are the laptop's specs: Laptop ...

Re: (possible bug) renaming files in Mint

Yeah, it is another possibility but imagine I have 1000 files in the folder. Don't do that. I download everything into a "downloads" directory that rarely has more than 5 or 6 files in it, then move them to "music" or "pictures" etc directories afterwards. I think you'...

Re: (possible bug) renaming files in Mint

I've never had that happen but I can reproduce what you did (w/firefox) and get the filename.jpg.jpg. Here's what I do: when saving the second file, click the first file name rather than typing "ar"; now change "front" to back" in the filename. It gives the right answer (fi...

If you genuinely think it's a bug, report on the github page.

I know that, I am going to file it, but I wanted some opinions before reporting.

(possible bug) renaming files in Mint

I save a lot of pictures from different websites, and I encounter the next thing I consider it annoying, useless, and also a bug! Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon Cinnamon Version: 4.6.7 Linux kernel: 5.4.0-42-generic Steps to reproduce: 1. open any website (that has pictures in its articles. E.g.: https://an...

Have you asked at WINEHQ about this? You may get more joy there to be honest.

Yes, I already wrote yesterday... still hoping to find a solution here or there.

Re: Set METRIC in Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon and not INCHES

Your main PC is easily powerful enough to run a virtual machine. If you cannot get the program to behave as you want with Mint 20 then you could run it in Windows 7 that way. In the meantime, 1 inch=2.54cm  Indeed, BUT I don't want to use Virtualbox for this (I already set it up and everythin...

Gosh, guys, you're hilarious!
Romania DOES use metrics but I do not get why that software doesn't take the Romanian locale I have set.
And NO, there is no where in the program's settings a switch to metrics - imperial. I know ma' program 8)

Re: Set METRIC in Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon and not INCHES

Just a suggestion, or question really. If wine is reinstalled, with English Canada as local system, might that help? It's what I'd try anyway in this circumstance. That is a great solution but I do not know how to properly and completely remove wine. Will have to dig up on the Internet and then try...
