Re: Reset USB subsystem / Resume from Suspend

Yes, except that "a touch on a key brings it back" sometimes this works and sometimes not. I have tried to solve this issue by following the solution / work around by GM10 in https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=277163 but that did not solve it for good. so my general question "how to fully ...

Reset USB subsystem / Resume from Suspend

My computer sometimes wakes up from suspend by pressing a keyboard key, but most of the time it does not. Resume by pressing the on-off switch always works. Because "sometimes" can be very hard to diagnose (from my experience) I would like to have the system forget all USB settings and redo all sett...

Re: Internal HD presented as removable.

in /etc/fstab I removed 'x-gvfs-show' for the disk in question and now the disk is not listed in Nemo as Removable.
This can also be achieved via Disks ..... Edit Mount Options.

Solved, Dennis? (Although ... don't know about the VM)

Re: Internal HD presented as removable.

Same experience here. Catweazel is correct to point to BIOS, but in my situation BIOS is stating hot swap disabled. Check here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=208514, response 3. That reported to me that disk not removable, but still Nemo thinks otherwise. I must add that Nemo and the Re...

Audacity 2.32 HiDPI scaling

In LM 19.2 with desktop scaling double (HiDPI) Audacity is not scaling well. This is a known fact. I was pleasantly surprised by the distro KDE Neon 5.16.4 which runs on the same Ubuntu as LM, 18.04. And also not Wayland. There the scaling is fine (same hardware), which makes editing in Audacity a j...

Re: KDE Neon stole my Mint boot menu

Tried Boot-Repair by booting LM 19.2 from an USB Drive. This created a boot menu with many entries. This worked. But in LM 'sudo update-grub' caused repeatedly a spontaneous reboot half-way through. Then I remembered TimeShift which had saved me before. And again by restoring to the day before I ins...

Re: KDE Neon stole my Mint boot menu

Thank you for your reply. It is one of your replies in another topic who made me aware that KDE Neon exists! Maybe I should have pointed out that the boot menu by Neon does include Mint. So booting Mint is not the problem, but only how to get LM's update-grub working as expected (by me).

[solved] KDE Neon stole my Mint boot menu

Somehow my Mint Grub boot menu 'disappeared'. My PC has three harddrives. I added KDE Neon (based on Ubuntu LTS 18.04) and selected to add the Neon Grub to sdc. Upon reboot I discovered that the Neon install had 'overwritten' the Mint Grub menu on sda1 in the EFI System Partition. So, in LM I expect...

When will Xfce 4.14 arrive in Linux Mint

Today I learned that after more than 4 years a new version of Xfce has been released, with an impressive change log. Will this be offered in the update manager somewhere in the near? future? I do not want to rush anybody (after all Xfce took their time too), I am just curious if and how this new ver...

Re: Grub menu

In Mint unmount / eject the usb-thumbdrive. Open Terminal and enter 'sudo update-grub' (without the quotes). This makes grub update the boot options and since the usb disk is not there, only the standard boot will be included in the menu.

Re: photos batch shadows highlights

After the previous post, I re-checked Shotwell and discovered that it can copy Color Adjustments in batch. Actually in the same way as in Picasa:

1. adjust a photo, e.g. increase shadows
2. go back to the library
3. select all target photos
4. in the menu: Photos, Paste Color Adjustments

photos batch shadows highlights [solved]

For years I used Picasa to batch process photos. I am now looking for a program that can adjust shadows and highlights in the same manner. Shotwell does the trick but can not do it in batch (I could not find it). XnView does have a shadow / highlights adjustment, but the effect is very different tha...

As a consequence, Update Manager will offer kernel updates for 4.15.0-xx and 4.18.0-xx to you.
So, when I do upgrade to the new 4.15.0-xx kernel, does this replace the installed 4.18 kernel and is used at the next boot? Or does the update manager just adds a 4.15 kernel in /boot?

[solved] Why does Update Manager lists older kernel?

and what happens if it would install the older kernel? My system runs 4.18.0-15-generic. The update manager offers 4.15.0.47.49. This looks to me as an older version. Non kernel software is never (?) offered to "upgrade" to an older version. I am sorry if this question was raised earlier. I find the...

[solved] change selection indication in Shut Down box

See the image below. When the pre-selection is moved to another box with the left or right arrow key, e.g. from Shut Down to Suspend, only a very thin black line indication shows that the selection is not Shut Down anymore. (In the image below this thin line does not show.) Is there a way to change ...

What worked for me: Run Macrium Reflect on a windows machine. Create the Rescue Media on a USB drive / memory stick. Boot Linux machine from the USB Drive. As described by Bob466 in the start post. Works great!

Re: Title bar buttons too small, vertical scroll bar too thin

Now that Cinnamon 4.0 is out and part of Mint 19.1, do we have to re-do these tweaks?

I noticed that I still see the wider scroll bars, so that is still working, but maybe I am missing new features of Cinnamon because my pc is using old theme settings? That is why I ask.

[SOLVED] Applet Window List fills from right to left

Cinnamon's default includes the Window List Applet that adds boxes from left to right in the center bottom panel. When you de-activate Window List in Applets / Manage and then re-activate Window List it adds boxes from right to left. Alternatives for Window List, e.g CobiWindowList and Icing Task Ma...
