Sadly suspend from the start menu doesn't always work as it should...having a window open when invoking suspend works as it should.

Not a problem on this laptop (or on two other Asus I have). In this case it doesn't shutdown, doesn't get as far as booting (no Asus splash screen etc). But thanks for the thought.
