Re: Can I still use 17.3?

I am surprised and a little shocked by the extent that my seemingly simple question caused and all the questions that came as a result. I am not unmoved that so many with me had questions and concerns about the subject and how supportive some answers were, full of self-confidence and hybris as well ...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

You didn't read what I wrote! The counter that is the basis for a blade to a larger one has only 17.3 and 18.3! Probably then 2 cores: Core Linux 4.15.0-58-generic x86_64 in 18.3 and some older in 17.3. Do not mix this with the 1 TB disk that is cloned from the old one. Writing that you have not had...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

Linux Mint 18.3 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2021 so what are talking about ?? I am very very greatful to get expert-help from people that know a lot about Linux Mint but if you read all that has been written since my first question it looks like quarrel between some ...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

That was pretty much the answer I expected; These "experts" who sit there in the cloud mouth and have their final standard response are unable to question the functionality of current versions. When suddenly an unexpected turn takes place, then a simple "order" from the higher place will end the who...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

As Vilsen has no interest in learning how to upgrade, I'm not going to debate. I'll just say, you're not doing it correctly. What do you mean? I must reasonably have every right in the world to clone a fully functioning disk to one that is larger where / root and / home are on each partition and th...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

I actually came up with a viable solution to the problem: I am going to clone the old disk again and start over. One thing that needs to be resolved though: The printer I have have been working well for all years but suddenly I get no contact with it. I do not know where the problem is and I have as...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

To many kernels ? Let me be very very clearly clear: No problem whatsoever BEFORE I installed 19.3 ! No problem at all !!! There was 17.3 MATE and 18.3 MATE from cloning ( where 18.3 had separate / & /home -partitions) then there was 17.3 KDE and another installation of 18.3 and 19.2 MATE . GRUB did...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

Listen up : Now it was still good for the forest so it should suffice and stay over: After I installed 19.3 on a separate partition, GRUB and its appearance were changed and something is so messed up VERY VERY BAD so that I can no longer start my old 18.3 installation (with separate Root and home pa...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

Maybe I did something wrong ? I am not experienced but I prefer to use Mint MATE and I want to be experienced ! How exactly do you go when you upgrade to a newer version (18.3 >> 19.3) and you have separate / home-dirctory ?? Why not insert a simple text file (which is editable) that notes all the (...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

You wrote: Because in my experience, reusing /home makes a ton of difference in how easy or hard it is to upgrade. And there is no indication as to whether you have ever tried this. It seems you would rather complain than find a solution. Is that so? Well, yes I did in fact but then I realized that ...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

Lord my creator as a quirky exchange of words that arose out of this so rudimentary but surely such an ESSENTIAL question and see how many who would argue and defend their position and see how many like me have encountered the problem over the years. Think about those who are super knowledgeable and...

Re: Printer (Samsung M2020) Stopped unplugged or turned off BUT IT ISN´T

When trying to re-install driver I get:

**** Do you agree ? [y/n] : y
**** The same version of Print driver is already installed.
**** Install finished.

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

You asked: "Do you have intentions to upgrade? " It has already been done. Many many many times . The problem is that I use my Linux MINT Mate environment every day - not for fun - I use linux in my daily work ! To be able to do so I have spent many hours customizing and "setting" all the programs I...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

I read: Does LINUX protect you against Ransomware? An honest answer is YES, Linux does protect you from ransomware. There have been no reported ransomware damage to Linux systems to date. Both NotPetya and WannaCry used the NSA hacking tool EternalBlue to enter Windows machines with unpatched securi...

Re: Can I still use 17.3?

Now I get confused, I had that understanding

that Linux was basically so secure

that no virus or malware could compromise with it
