Re: I dont know wich Mint version to use :(

I use Xubuntu on a laptop with an old celeron and 1G RAM and it runs fast, so you may install Xubuntu 12.04 LTS. And if you can wait, the awaited Linux Mint 13 Xfce.

Re: Window rendering size LMDE/XFCE

Je ne sais pas si un réglage de xfce peut régler ton problème, mais j'ai eu un problème similaire avec evince et je l'ai facilement résolu grâce à l'incroyable devilspie (il est dans les dépôts officiels)

Re: Oracle JDK7

According to: http://weblogs.java.net/blog/robogeek/archive/2009/01/it_will_be_open.html OpenJDK 7 == JDK 7 (for the most part) I doubt any typical user/developer could tell a difference. -Hinto Good new. As a simple user, I have switched to OpenJDK for months and my Java applications run smoothly :)

Re: I want select one edition???

@ rekik: Under 1GB ram I would recommend that but for 2GB using 64-bit is usually ok. I've once installed Mint 64-bit on a laptop with only 2G and it runs smooth. 4-bit is usually ok, sure, but I have tried both of them in my 2 GB system and found that the 64-bit edition uses more RAM than 32-bit o...

Re: Oracle JDK7

OpenJDK-7 is indeed in the repositories, but I think that alyoisius meant the Oracle one, which AFAIK is no longer present in the repos after an Oracle decision.

Re: The 12.04 Betas

Xubuntu 12.04 beta2 is also incredibility stable ans well polished. This LTS will be great (as 10.04 but unlike 8.04 IMHO)

Re: Does ATI hate Linux? Issue with Gnome 3 and Catalyst

It's not a problem between ATI and linux but a problem with gnome 3. No problem at all with Unity (and for Xfce, KDE, etc.). So it's Gnome3 that suck, not ATI

Re: What are the basic differences between DEs'

Nice topic to understand easily about DEs' :D My PC configuration: Processor:- Intel Celeron 1.80 Ghz RAM: 1GB DDR2 HDD: 320 GB So, Xfce or LXDE will work good for my PC rather than GNOME or KDE. Am I right? Expect suggestion from the experienced person :) I would suggest to install both xfce and l...

This is an advocacy for a particular DE, not a a comparative between DE's.

AFAIK, the classical Ubuntu based Gnome edition will be continued, but Mint XFCE will be exclusively Debian based.

Re: midori

Is your Home partition automounted on boot ? If so, providing /etc/fstab content will help

May be a UUID mess ? I would have tried to replace UUID=************ by /dev/sda* (after a back-up of fstab of course)

Another way is to save your system partition with Clonezilla before upgrading. Useful if you don't have a free partition.

Re: DONT DO IT....

I have successfully upgraded from Xubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 (after a partition backup with clonezilla). It downloaded 545 MB only and worked fine. The sole software that was uninstalled is audacious.
