Re: Poor wifi speed

Hi Phd21, and thanks for that thoughtful reply. It's a relatively recent thing. I'm not sure how to restart with an older kernel? I have a 200mbps connection because there are several heavy internet users in my household. I'm realistically hoping to get 20-30 mbps per device. I have tested it with a...

Re: Poor wifi speed

Well, speedtest.net was showing 102mbps -- while my wife was using another device -- so I think the 200mbps connection to my house is functioning as intended. I ran the test over wireless, on a tablet which was physically next to my computer. My desktop is consistently showing 0.5 mbps. However, it ...

Poor wifi speed

I have a 200 mbps connection to my house, verified with speedtest.net on other devices. For some reason, I'm getting 0.5 mbps via wifi on my linux box. iwconfig output: lo no wireless extensions. wlp33s0b1 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"VM9750668" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: C0:05:C2:CE:45:41...

Try this and reboot

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source && sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
Thank you. This worked.

Re: Wireless not working

I'm afraid not. It only offers me a proprietary Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which I'm using) and AMD-64 driver for my processor.

[Resolved] Wireless not working

Has been working fine for about six months, now suddenly broken. I'm able to get online while USB tethered to a phone. I have a Tenda W322E wireless network card. Output of wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && chmod +x wireless-info && ./wirele...

[Solved] Mic issue in Linux Mint 18.3

In the end, the solution was to buy a USB microphone. I simply couldn't make the jack work.

I suspect the problem may have had something to do with dual monitors one using the HDMI cable, but I just couldn't figure it out.

Re: Mic issue in Linux Mint 18.3

Thank you. For anyone following along, I typed in terminal:-

sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui

Then I typed:-

hdajackretask

This brings up the menu jimallyn is talking about. I have not finished trying all the combinations yet.

Re: Mic issue in Linux Mint 18.3

Thank you for responding. Update manager has no newer kernels for me to install so I presume I have the latest. The mic is a Dynamode DH-878 headset; it works fine on my wife's laptop. I have borrowed her headset and plugged it into my Linux machine and it produces the same weird noise. I should pro...

[SOLVED] Mic issue in Linux Mint 18.3

Hi all, thanks in advance for any help. I'm struggling to make my microphone work on my headset. Re: Struggling to install drivers for network card

Hello, thanks for the welcome. :)

I've unpacked it but installation instructions seem to be missing. It's given me a folder called "lib", a folder called "src", and a document called "makefile" that opens like a text document but seems to contain code.

[RESOLVED] Struggling to install drivers for network card

Hi all I'm rather new to Linux I'm afraid. I'm trying to install the drivers for a Tenda W322E wireless network card in Linux Mint 18.2. (At the moment I can get online but only by using my Android phone in USB tether mode, which isn't the most convenient thing ever.) I've found what seems to be the...
