Re: Cinnamon Crashing Frequently

This issue is caused when an application requests a huge texture for some reason. One known app that did this was Google Chrome when using it's dev tools thing. Sorry I don't use it and remember what it's called. It would request a texture that was like 64,000px size. A texture of that size is outs...

Re: Cinnamon Crashing Frequently

I noticed your kernel is 3.19. Perhaps updating to 4.4 (which I just recently did when prompted by the update manager) would be the most simple approach. It certainly wouldn't hurt. Tried that a while ago... Couldn't get xserver/cinnamon to stay stable at all. It would crash on log-in... Then again...

Re: Cinnamon Crashing Frequently

I tried turning off apache to make PHP stop running, but that didn't work. PHP Session clean still ran, and a crash happened after one of those cron job runs. It seems to not happen after every session clean, but randomly. It seems that maybe the session clean is eating into the XServer or MDM sessi...

Re: OS Up-dates errors and video cutting

Editing or encoding digital video isn't as simple as it may seem. Unless it's raw video (ie. it's compressed) you have key frames and non key frames. You can't cut on non key frames without doing any re encoding. This is wrong. If the editing software is doing what it should, then it will completel...

Re: Cinnamon Crashing Frequently

I've had it happen again. It seems, for whatever reason, to be tied to PHP session cleaning.... Every time this CRON job runs, I get a Xserver and/or MDM crash. Feb 17 21:09:01 CRON[6688]: (root) CMD ( [ -x /usr/lib/php/sessionclean ] && if [ ! -d /run/systemd/system ]; then /usr/lib/php/sessionclea...

Re: Shortcut for Auto-hide Panel

Seems like the intelligent hide won't really work for me either. If I have more than one window in view at one time, it will pop the panel open and keep it open. (For example, firefox and atom with atom resized to be sitting over the firefox window). As such the panel will sit over the minimize, res...

Shortcut for Auto-hide Panel

Are there any shortcuts for showing the actual menu bar/panel if it is auto-hidden? If I hit the windows key I get the search box and scrollable menu with the applications, but not the actual bar. I need the bar to quickly check the time without needing to use the mouse.

Re: Removing LSO's from Firefox 57 Quantum ?

I uninstalled flash from all my computers. Everything is fine. But surely thats going to reduce functionality on many websites? Not any websites that are coded by competent people. Flash is end of life, and will completely lose support from Adobe by the end of 2020. The only websites that require i...

Re: VLC 2.2.2 - Susceptible to Subtitle Hack?

But Mint/Ubuntu are intended to be STABLE distros, and they won't always have the latest versions of everything. In other words, they're so poorly coded that even the slightest deviation from all the components interacting just right causes the entire thing to fall apart. I thought linux was suppos...

Re: Not using radeon drivers

Basically what I mean is you can't use Radeon drivers on Mint 18 with GCN Gen 1 cards, and what you're getting right now is probably all you're going to able to get with Mint 18, without using a different graphics card. Ubuntu had some patches made for it for some Gen 1 cards, but that patch has nev...

Re: Not using radeon drivers

AMD Radeon GCN Generation 1 cards aren't supported by the AMD Drivers on Mint 18. I'm pretty sure both of you have Gen 1 or older cards. You're options are to use the X.org Server generic drivers, return to Mint 17.3, or use another OS.

Re: Help! macbook pro keyboard layout

Your system seems broken and a cure for that is re-installation of Linux Mint. XKB is essential part of Linux Mint and handles keyboard codes in all desktops. All files with key mappings are here: /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ A quite radical cure, is there any way to get just a part re-installed or ...

[SOLVED]Linux Mint (17.3) Desktop Background from a non-OS hard drive

I have a secondary hard drive that I use for my file storage. I have an image stored on that harddrive, that I wish to use as my desktop background. That drive automounts via fstab, but when ever I shut down and reboot, the image is removed from the desktop. How can I have Mint pull this image from ...

Re: Install PHP 7 on Linux Mint 17.3

It depends on the version you want. sudo apt install php7 won't work because the repos are giving the option of 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2. You need to append the version number with a dot and the sub-version you want. You can also do a apt search php7 , which should give you the three options of 7.0, 7.1, a...

You can also install Firefox, Opera or Midori browser from Software Manager. Don't install Opera from the software manager... it's grossly outdated. The Manager give...

Also, if you haven't yet, read this thread:

In short, AMD graphics cards and Mint 18 is a crap combination under pretty much all circumstances. It's why I'm still on 17.3.

Re: AMD graphic cards and Linux Mint

Which version of Mint? There's known issue of AMD drivers not working well on Mint 18 (or it's derivatives). AMD specifically released a patch for Ubuntu that has marginal success on Mint 18, with very specific cards.
