Re: Evince document viewer can't be set as Default

Try this. I just installed evince because you recommended it, and had the same problem initially. In a terminal, type: which evince. My answer was /usr/bin/evince You MAY get different Copy your answer (shift-ctrl-c) Now go back to Nemo, and paste that output into the box asking for other command.

Re: can't boot possible hdd crash?

I hate to say this, but I'm thinking there is a deeper problem. BUT try removing the hdd, and booting Mint from USB again. If that now works, try another hdd - hopefully you have a spare, or can borrow one. If Mint still doesn't work properly, try booting OSx. It may give you some clue about the pro...

Re: Mint on my MacBook and Mini

If the error messages worry you, try installing Mate instead. There is a mate-mega package in the software centre. If you like Mate, OK. If not, keep looking for the drivers.

I'm surprised you're having a problem with a 10 year old laptop. Mind you, my 10yo macbookhas died, so your's is doing well.

How do I add a second panel???

Right click on existing panel, choose 'Add Panel'; then move it where you want it.

Re: Windows 10 alongside Mint 18.3

I consider the question is, how much free space is on the partition. If I was dual booting, I'd be leaving 5G for Windows to 'play' with when booting. My win7 install is using virtually 40G, and 10 needs more in my experience - and I haven't added anything to win; it's a base install.

Re: lm18.1-64 cinn. How to upgrade to 18.2 NOT 18.3

as root (eg sudo xed) alter /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

amend serena to read sonya

then sudo apt update
then sudo dist-upgrade

I have thought that an update applies to day-to-day software; upgrade is moving form eg 18.1 to18.2 or serena to sonya

Re: WINDOWS10 alongside Mint 18.3

I wonder if there is enough space on the drive. Try reducing the windows partition using windows' own disk manager - right click on the disk in explorer should find it. Leave the space blank for Mint installer to use.

Re: how to mount windows shared folder in Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3

I have often solved this kind of problem by copying the line from /etc/mtab to /etc/fstab - after mounting the share.

Re: Trying to install Mint on a new Lenovo laptop

What happens if you just let the laptop boot, without the USB, and NO f12? (It sounds like the installation of Mint completed OK.) Normally you will get a list of boot options that will mean something more. Doing nothing will boot to the last installed system.

Re: Unlocking Linux Mint 18.2 xfce

Last question first - no, this has not happened to me over a few years. A couple of suggestions: Try using the number keys at the top of the keyboard, rather the the number pad. Try entering your password with number pad but prior to pressing the activation key. I'm thinking the light is out but the...

G'day I'd suggest you read through this request. Ican't suggest anything further, other than suggest that maybe apple has decided to make installing linux harder. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=261805 Given your machine's specs, LM will run just fine in Virttualbox, at https://dow...

Re: Samba throughput slow from client end when mounted through Nemo

A further addendum. I wrote an alias to mount the remote share, and discovered I had to add an option:

alias mntc='sudo sshfs -o allow_other,nonempty keith@192.168.0.126:/mnt/ /mnt/compaq/ && mc /mnt/data/keith /mnt/compaq'

Worked as I expected.

I realised later I should have added m final mount:

sudo sshfs -o allow_other keith@192.168.0.126:/mnt/ /mnt/compaq

I only wanted the remote /mnt available locally

I tried sshfs for this reason, and found the set-up easy between to LM machines. Check this link: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-sshfs-to-mount-remote-file-systems-over-ssh I had to list both machine ip addresses to /etc/hosts; and install openssh-server and openssh-clie...

You can manually edit your sources to reflect the progressive upgrades, like:

sudo xed /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

The version names are available at:
