Thanks a lot phd21, here are some first answers: ad 1) This T420 is very well equipped with lots of features. Among others it has 2 graphic cards, the internal Intel graphics and the NVIDIA you mentioned, which imho is provided for external monitors. I think, this is the reason, why I currently have...

I have been running LO 6.0.2, 6.0.3, 6.0.4, 6.0.5 and now 6.0.6 under Linux Mint Mate 18.3 without any crash so far. I have installed the corresponding DEB packages directly from the LO website https://www.libreoffice.org . Have you reported the problems you encountered on LO Bugzilla https://bugs.d...

Re: To uninstall LibreOffice

Yes Ricardo, selecting the "ure" package in synaptic will automatically select the entire LibreOffice suite to be removed, but you should keep "libreoffice-style-mint". In fact, I use LibreOffice but I always install (and uninstall) it manually as Debian packages from the LibreOffice home page. In t...

[Closed]: Removal of bluetooth software packages

Thanks for your answers thx-1138 and catweazel. It is certainly a good advice to disable the bluetooth service rather than to remove every software packages related to bluetooth :wink:. The underlying problem that I hope to fix is unfortunately difficult to reproduce (at least for me). I have descri...

Re: Mouse pointer size varies

I have noticed a sporadic problem with my mouse pointer as well, which may be related to your problem. I am running - Linux Mint 18.3 Mate - 4.13.0-37-generic #42~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP and I have changed the look of my mouse pointer per "Control Center -> Appearance -> Customize -> Pointer" to use the ...

Re: problem with shared library

Hi politano, sorry I was busy a few days due to meltdown and spectre :-( and thanks thx-1138 for helping politano. I am sorry, I should have clarified that "ldd" expects as an argument the path pointing to an executable file. If the executable file is located in the same path, where you run the "ldd...

Re: Runlevel toggle 5->1->5 results in blank screen

After digging a while for possible solutions, I conclude that the observed behavior is a systemd bug :-(, most likely related to https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2607. As a workaround, I now reboot my system, whenever I want to get back to runlevel5 (graphical.target).

[Solved] Experiences building gcc-3.4.6 (gcc, g++, g77)

In order to compile the source code of old FORTRAN77 programs, it was necessary to build gcc-3.4.6 (gcc, g++, g77) from scratch. Before I decided to build the old compiler I had tried to compile those programs with gcc-5.4.0, but failed due to some "non-clean" programming styles that were often used...

Re: Boot delay due to Btrfs scan

I have spend more time analyzing the issue and can rule out "systemd-fsck" as the root cause of the 5s time delay. I have set the sixth field for the partitions /dev/sda[5-7] to "0" in /ets/fstab and it did not have any effect. This leaves the "inteldrmfb" frame buffer device, which interestingly is...

Re: Boot delay due to Btrfs scan

I do have an SSD and the boot procedure measured from the end of the grub menu to the appearance of the lightDM login screen is about 16s. So, as I mentioned in my original post, it is not an urgent issue. However, I compare the boot sequence with the one of my previous SuSE Linux 12.3 (also with SS...
